Whats your Favorite PSX OST?

It's hard to decide between the three, but Revelations: Persona has a great soundtrack which I hadn't seen mentioned yet and doesn't seem to get as recognised as the 2 duology. There's a sort of oppressive darkness to a good chunk of the OST with your back against the wall in a terrifying world filled with demons. There's also magical, mystical sounding relief sprinkled in to give that dash of hope that things really can be fixed. And in the case of the final two tracks, the battle for the world itself against
Pandora
and the song which
ushers in the bright future the party fought for
.

Here's a few of my personal highlights:

Chrono Cross has great compositions all around. Einhander, Wipeout 3 and Ghost in the Shell are worthy mentions.

If I were to name them all, I'd be here forever!
But just to name a few:
Ridge Racer Type 4
Racing Lagoon
Ape Escape
Star Ocean: The Second Story
Valkyrie Profile
Chrono Cross
Final Fantasy VIII
Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit
Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night
Xenogears.

Symphony of the Night (Favorite track: Wandering Souls - The Colloseum)
Baroque (Favorite track: One Foot in the Grave)
Legacy of Kain - Soul Reaver (Favorite Track - Raziel's Stronghold, which may be part of one of the BEST intros in the history of videogames)

these days, I feel like so many psx games have a few fire tracks that I just default to whatever brings me the warmest feelings. So it's kind of tricky, but maybe LUNAR or Star Ocean 2? Neither is the best OST pound for pound (SO2 has some... godawful songs holy frick) but on the whole they make me smile.

OK Pure a Stream is surely one of the best town themes (and best town theme name)

And Lunar...I could go on for days about that OST. Tied with FFIX for most heartfelt OST for me

Off the top of my head, Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha (Maximillian Dood still uses Sakura's theme from this game...), Brave Fencer Musashi and naturally, Symphony of the Night.

my god a lot of excellent ost on ps1
R-Type Delta
Alien Trilogy

Die Hard Trilogy

Infinity Mijinion (Mega Man X6)

People have noted a lot of my favorites already in the thread, so I don’t need to talk about how great FF7 and SOTN’s soundtracks are. Instead I’ll point out two soundtracks that I think are very overlooked:

Vib Ribbon
Vib Ribbon is famous for being able to generate levels for any music, but the songs that were written for the game are legit amazing. They’re really experimental with tempo and timing, likely because they were written to emphasize the gameplay, but they’re also incredibly accessible and catchy.

Gran Turismo
I was never especially interested in cars so driving games never really had a pull to me (with the exception of stuff like Hot Pursuit and Chase HQ where there are objectives other than “finish first”) but Gran Turismo packaged the whole idea of racing and tuning cars in a way that felt reverent of it in a way that helped me at least understand why people are into it. The soundtrack is a big part of that, and I think they knew it because they started paying big money to license hit songs. Even still, I really love the eclectic selection of different genres, from techno to rock to straight-up film score compositions.

Tamamayu Monogatari(also known as Jade Cocoon)
A mix of strangeness, coming of age and forced duty.
I could add the Langrisser titles, but they sound far better in the Saturn.

The RPGs dominate in my mind because you use the soudntrack to score emotional moments and the moments contribute to enjoying the tracks as much as these help making those shine.

Final Fantasy VII, IX, and Xenogears are my favourites.

However, Ridge Racer Type 4 I listened to a lot even with less emotional attachment involved. Move me is still considered the only correct answer to give when asked what your favourite track in the series is.
