I remember when gaming (and, to a lesser extent, computer) magazines wouldn't shut up about this-or-that title, just for the much-praised game to be forgotten about the second it was released. It was weird because they drilled it into our heads that these games were gonna be the crown jewel of our collections, yet many went on to become financial failures or cult classics at best.

This didn't happen all the time, but it did happen a lot and it always made me wonder whether we knew something they didn't or if the advertisement money was just too strong (which is honestly the most likely explanation).

The two I can recall off the top of my head are Buck Bumble (N64) and DRIV3R (PS2).

I don't think they are bad games, but both suffered from so much cut content and delays that they could never live up to the insane hype surrounding them.

What about you? What examples can you add?
