What's your favorite Fromsoftware

My modern answer is Dark Souls 2: SotFS or Elden Ring. But for their older titles I have been playing the Echo Night series and Shadow Tower Abyss here and there.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice
Sekiro is almost a perfect game to me - everything is where it should be, all killer, no filler. Right there with you.

As for the older titles - the atmosphere in King's Field 4 is absolutely impeccable and the player character's movement feels way better than in its predecessors, so that would be up there for me.
Either that or Armored Core: Last Raven and its smooth as hell controls.

Weird answer, but I really like Shadow Tower on the PS1. As the unofficial last PS1 King's Field game, I really feel like they applied a lot of the lessons they learned over the course of that series into making something tight, focused, and smooth, with great atmosphere and tone. I always hear Dark Souls fans banging on about how those games have strong world design in a singular, consistent location, and Shadow Tower is totally that to a T.

The combat is still a touch clunky and slow, but I really do enjoy weaving my way through dark, dusty catacombs and basements, battling creepy tentacle monsters and casting little spells. The King’s Field games were always a bit slow for my taste, but I think Shadow Tower struck a good balance between methodical, thoughtful dungeon-crawling and action-heavy battles.

I love how it’s a very “gothic” game, too — I’m no fantasy lover, but I do like gothic aesthetics and architecture, and the game has a wonderful atmosphere. (It reminds a me a lot of Deception, one of my all-time favourite franchises.) I believe it was meant to be a bit scarier than King’s Field, and I like that direction a LOT. Great, underrated game — if they ever made a modern Dark Souls-esque interpretation, I’d gobble it up.

Precise, polished, every fight is a blood pumping rush. Miyazakis magnus opus and I'll die on this hill (unless he makes another pure action game)

Armored Core 6, as my sainted aunt would say it's finer than frog fur.

Nice argument right there buddy, too bad all of your equipment is about to break, care to hand over 90% of your HP to fix it?. I liked the game too and made it to the first boss but jumped ship shortly after because i got sick of not being able to see two feet ahead of me, the game is just too dark man. Maybe some day i will try again.

For me it's King's Field IV. At this point i think i will use a signature that says "my favorite game is king's field IV" because i mention KFIV very often.

FromSoftware is a Dev I pop in and out on, I love risky rough games, Evergrace 1 and 2, Rune I and 2 (called Lost Kingdoms in NA) are unique styles and have little game mechanic quirks that I love. Always an Armored Core Fan too. Ouu Enchanted Arms is really underrated too.

Enchanted Arms got overshadowed by some of the other RPGs released that generation. It has really low budget cutscenes, but the battle system is really fun and gets difficult. I love it
Oddly enough, Enchanted Arms is the only FromSoft game I enjoyed. I'm not big into mecha so Armored Core didn't do too much for me. The Dark Souls games were fine but massively overhyped imho. I really dug Kuon's atmosphere but holy HELL is it a slog to play, which describes a lot of their other games. EA, on the other hand, had genuinely good writing and fun gameplay. Sure, it was made on a budget and some of the character designs were woof, but it was fun.

That's the really scary part of the game. Haven't you ever heard the term "ludonarrative dissonance?" ?

This is actually a huge thing I love about the game – you never know what's beyond your immediate FOV until you know the tower like the back of your hand. I get why people would hate it, and I imagined that's why they changed it for the second one, but... y'know... I just think it's neat, OK!?!?!?

Modern answer is Bloodborne but classic answer would have to be Otogi 2 or Shadow Tower! It feels odd not choosing an Armored Core for either since that was the series I discovered them with alongside most others, but I struggle to go back to a lot of AC games. The original, AC4 and AC5 are the only ones that really keep me invested long term for whatever reason.

Easy Dark Souls 1, Armored core 3/ 4 for answer, Echo night 2 (I like the others too but 2 doesn't have that casino part like 1), Enchanted Arms, Shadow Tower Abyss and Evergrace plus Forever kingdom. I still need to try the king field games

Metal Wolf Chaos. Can't beat cheesy voice acting with rad mech combat.

A four-way tie between Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Armored Core 6 and Armored Core 4 Answer.

Really hope we're not stuck waiting a long time for the next good Armored Core game....

PS1 Armored Core trilogy
Dark Souls 1
Dark Souls 2
King's Field IV

(I would have included Bloodborne a few months ago, but after recently replaying it, I think it kind of loses steam after the Father Gascoigne fight due to a lack of tonal variety––that everything basically takes place in the same purple-glazed Hellworld makes it a harder sell for replays, at least for me.)

Has anyone ever played the Echo Night games? Are those good? I'm somewhat intrigued by them, but they seem so far out of FromSoft's wheelhouse that I have no idea what their quality would be like.

I’ve been playing AC series since the PS1 days you see I’m a bit of a Gundam anime back then there’s not much Gundam games that gives you the feeling of piloting a giant mech so that’s where it all starts.
