What's wrong with most modern games in 2025?

IDK the answer to this but I do have some introspection

In my opinion, it was wrong of Square Enix to re-release the PS1 version of Tactics on Steam just a few weeks ago

There was a PSP remake of it that was far better and they should've ported that one

I feel A LOT of companies are just doing soulless remakes like the Tactics remake just to make some quick money because they're either feigning ignorance to websites like these, or are using the "retro game bubble" to their advantage, which started around the time of Wata Games and still continues to this day even after their downfall

I really think Wata Games destroyed the retro game market and we're still feeling the after affects of it, which is leading to these bigger companies "getting away with it", too

* DLC and Season Passes on fighting games, no more secret characters and stages to unlock instead you unlock them with your credit card

* same with fighting games, DLC's on JRPG's - Side Stories and Side Quest are sold separately instead of being included on the disc or cart, bad example of cutting down story content is the Eiyuuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes where every side stories costs 5 dollars and Final Fantasy XV

* Games Don't Have cheat code inputs like the Up Up Down Down thingy anymore

* just a nitpick but man, no more continue countdown animations on most modern fighting games? - The King of Fighters XV, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, Soul Calibur 6, City of The Wolves, Tekken 8, all of them are made in the same game engine, makes the game play experience and menu designs feel the same once you experience playing all of them

* Bad game optimizations, developers taking the easy way out by using the Unreal Engine 5 for game development notorious for being a resource hog, if the game is not properly optimized/tested to run for the game console, the unit could struggle to keep running the game for a long time, makes the console shut down due to overheating

* No proper beta testing and quality checking when game companies release their games, you get the buggy and incomplete version when you buy the physical disc released on day one, for example in the PS4 Version of Dragon Quest XI, there's a crashing bridge scene that kicks the console's fan into overdrive, it would make you think the console could explode at any moment, although the graphics on that scene is not very demanding, the Playstation 4's fan is spinning like crazy that even your neighbor could hear the loud fan, that certain scene alone could either shut down your console due to overheating or you could get past it by sheer luck if your console could stay turned on for a meager 10 seconds, heck even the PS3 could handle that scene no problem, it's not that the graphics are intensive, it's due to very bad optimization, the developers didn't even bother to check the scene that would give a huge stress on the console before distributing copies of the game through discs, instead they give fixes via updates at a later date by downloading them online which sucks because sometimes the update increases the game file size installed in the system, this way the developers could sell their unfinished games and make their consumers become their unpaid beta testers while they're at it

* Turning Turn Based RPG to mindless hack and slash action RPG is a big turn off

* Remakes and Remasters, remaking PS2 era games instead of NES to SNES era games are a big waste of time and resources, instead of remaking Metal Gear Solid 3 for the thousand time they should at least breath some new life to the Resident Evil Gaiden and Metal Gear Solid Ghost Babel games from the Game Boy Color into modern day graphics

* Social media also ruined modern gaming, content creators that shares fake news about game development for the sake of adding content are rampant, example of this are headlines like "X Game is currently on the works with AI pictures slapped on it without any actual facts like sneak peak videos to back up the information, and trolls that tells "If you don't like it don't play or buy it" if they don't agree with your feedback instead of making some constructive dialogue

* Social justice warriors getting offended even on a very tiny detail also ruined modern video games, no more bouncing jiggle physics, no more revealing clothing on female characters (Dead or Alive 6, Guilty Gear Strive), skin color due to ethnic race are being frowned upon and profanity that used to be funny that makes the game great being replaced by emo jokes that cater to the soft human species

Well that's my 2 cents anyway, thanks for taking the time to read it

They are pixeldrugs, pay for ur drugz.

Passive and slow, meant to be played once and thats it, shallow mechanics not balanced about expert players (they're barely a factor) most of the focus is on high production values and making a strong first impression that never challenges the player

A game like devil may cry 1 and 3, where you're expected to die over and over on the first boss until you learn the basics of combat and movement, would never be made today

And since they cant challenge the player they must also al control and look the same, and have similar UIs and gameplay elements

Remakes making even older games homogenous and the exact same as modern big budget releases

Everything has movement inertia or dark soulesque dodge roll and parry
