Usually when we talk about bad movies, the usual suspects are either mainstream or semi mainstream films. Bad Adam Sandler comedies, studio slop movies, or well known commercial directors or actors letting out a dud. However, what about the space that is usually is seen as something serene and perhaps, by some pretentious pricks, more elevated than your usual mainstream cinema for normies.
Yes, we are talking about art-house movies and in particular, movies that are shit despite trying to be art-housey or baiting to be art-housey in nature. Films that pretend to be something deep like a Herzog film but somehow are stupider than Uwe Boll films. For unlike Uwe Boll films, you can't even enjoy them ironically.
Anyways, here's my personal top 5 worst art-house/indie films I ever saw:

1) Vernost/Fidelity (2019)

2) Guest In The Villa (2019)

3) All Eyes Off Me (2022)

4) Melancholie der Engel (2009)

Feel free to share and rant the ones you suffered through as well.

Wes Anderson has entered the chat.

I got on a kick of watching old 70s art house movies a few months ago, and boy are there some stinkers. Scenes drag on for ages and almost nothing happens.

Any French or Spanish film projected in the Cannes Film Festival.

It's all pretentious, and the worst part is that Spanish cinema falls into two categories: a romantic comedy that's unintentionally a comedy, or a film about the Franco that defends the communist terrorists and portrays all the military as the villains.

No, but I struggle to think of any. Probably don't watch enough movies. My bar for "I liked this." is usually pretty low so I tend to enjoy most of what I watch to at least some degree.

I usually don't like using the term pretentious, and I know it doesn't fit the category you're asking for in the slightest, but the first film I think of when hearing that term is Oppenheimer. Man, was it a slog.

I'll just go for him, because one of his films do anything for me.

"Full Frontal" by Steven Soderbergh. I found it long, pretentious, and heavy handed. Almost felt like a pretentious senior thesis

Don't let that cool poster fool you into beliving it will be a proto Bendy, it is actually a movie about being a Disney adult being bad... somehow

In reality it is a jumbled mess of nonsensical plot beats that i actually ended up sleeping while watching, yes it was filmed with pocket lint budget in Disneyland parks without being noticed but that's all, the ending making as much sense as the rest of the movie made me realize i would rather downloaded the ILOVEYOU virus than the movie
