Time. Component deterioration can happen even when the console is in storage.
I worked at a used game store back in 2003, and you wouldn't believe how many people came in complaining that their PS2 consoles were broken. I would open them up and be appauled at the insane amount of dust and smoke residue inside. After a good cleaning they would usually work good as new.I suppose smoking also deserves a mention...
Heat and dust, those are the most controlable factors yet often cause the most damage due to owner negligence.Heat?
Dust?
Power black-out?
Water?
something else?
Have you had any bad experiences with any of these?
I have no idea what it actually was, but when I had my PS3 from 2014 to 2020, it would sometimes have this problem where, out of nowhere, it started making a loud, cursed noise—as if it were crying for help or about to explode. Apparently, it was caused by dust buildup (at least that’s what the technician told my father, since I wasn’t there).Heat?
Dust?
Power black-out?

That's it. There is nothing worse that can happen to a console than a bad player. The players themselves?

They're nuclear war proof so yeah, they can eat anything possible.I once lived in a terrible slum-lord apartment, let me tell you cockroaches are the worst.
They get into EVERY electronic thing you own. It is gross

Like with books, discs, tapes and many other things: mistreatment can be fatal. That's it. There is nothing worse that can happen to a console than a bad player.
