Heat?
Dust?
Power black-out?
Water?
something else?

Have you had any bad experiences with any of these?

The players themselves?

Probably getting Banned From Playing online if you use the wrong move after jailbreaking it

Time. Component deterioration can happen even when the console is in storage.

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, consoles & flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

Time is the destroyer of worlds!

Sony and Nintendo

I suppose smoking also deserves a mention...
I worked at a used game store back in 2003, and you wouldn't believe how many people came in complaining that their PS2 consoles were broken. I would open them up and be appauled at the insane amount of dust and smoke residue inside. After a good cleaning they would usually work good as new.

I have no idea what it actually was, but when I had my PS3 from 2014 to 2020, it would sometimes have this problem where, out of nowhere, it started making a loud, cursed noise—as if it were crying for help or about to explode. Apparently, it was caused by dust buildup (at least that’s what the technician told my father, since I wasn’t there).

It usually made that noise when it started pushing the processor really hard, I think—like when there were too many things happening on screen, or when the game was extremely demanding. This happened especially with Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, and sometimes with Dragon Ball Xenoverse.

People just not taking care of their very expensive pieces of hardware.
The warranty be damned, I'm going to open my consoles and PCs to clean them at least bi-weekly. Laziness is honestly the worst enemy, it's right up there with smoking, a nasty, nasty habit anyhow, and not powering on your systems once in awhile. It's like a car, if you never drive it, it will lock up on you.

Puppies.
i was so hyped for PS2. Saved my money so i could get one
set it up in my room and went to school the next day
when i got home my puppy had chewed the cords off both the controllers and gnawed the thumb sticks.
i found a better home for the puppy. ><

I once lived in a terrible slum-lord apartment, let me tell you cockroaches are the worst.
They get into EVERY electronic thing you own. It is gross

They're nuclear war proof so yeah, they can eat anything possible.

That's it. There is nothing worse that can happen to a console than a bad player.
Like with books, discs, tapes and many other things: mistreatment can be fatal.

That thing where they become yellow, people, they are machines, not plants, leave them outside of the sun and keep then dry, when you need to wash them use wet tissues for the outside and proper cleaning for the inside
