Anime What's the worst anime you've ever watched?

Besides Blodivores (I think that's what it was called), and Keijo it's mostly been bad fansub vhs or bad dubs (e.g. Manga dubs) from back in the 90's and early 2000's, or Netflix quality subs like the one for Chuunibyou that is just a word for word text transcription of the dub. This did help me improve my Japanese listening skills quite considerably though.
I can't remember what it was called, but about 20 years ago my friend and I rented a DVD and it had two female protagonists with the most horrible, shrill voices ever. The English dub on the disc wasn't any better and we turned it off after only about 10 minutes.
It wasn't Tsukikage Ran was it?

I don't think I strongly dislike any one anime to that degree? ::cirnoshrug
Maybe Future Diary just because it was so relentlessly bleak?

I mentioned this once in the thread about anime you felt conned by watching, but my answer is still Shiki. Short "horror" anime that was barely unsettling (besides from one scene). Terribly paced with no pay off.

The 2011 remake of Dororon Enma-kun. It's peak bad taste, like if the worst of deviantart was made into anime or something.

Ruin Explorers is what comes to mind, but I don't think that was it.

Sword Gai: The Animation

I will admit, if you watch it in a vacuum, it seems like the most run-of-the-mill unfocused battle seinen anime ever, but it becomes truly VILE if you actually read the original manga it's "adapted" from. I put "adapted" in quotes, because the worst part is they added FILLER to a series that was completed THREE YEARS before the anime premiered.

Not to mention they took what was a laser-focused plot in the manga and made it a jumbled mess because they shoehorned in all their OCs into the plot. Like to give you an idea, the events of chapter 3 of the manga were in episode 7 of the anime.

I wrote a whole thing going over all the differences but the tl;dr version is Sword Gai: The Animation is actually the worst adaption ever and ruined what was actually a really good manga series.

And I don't mean just bc it has filler or bc it's not faithful to the manga (if it's an adaptation of a manga), bc with that logic then FMA 2003 would suck.
I remember sending back to the Store a used DVD of ●Angel Sanctuary ( US Manga Corps DVD ) Didn't really like that one but I'm sure it has its fans , Tried streaming ●Re:Zero once wasn't a fan of that either weirdly enough and ●Kai Doh Maru I still own love the artwork on the DVD , But I remember thinking the movie Not all that great when first watched it couple years ago but I'll have to rewatch Kai Doh Maru to get a better opinion on it I think

If anyone loves these Animes Sorry but honestly there's sooo many great ones I do enjoy the list of ones I don't like is pretty tiny in comparison I've watched sooo many good ones

Oh man, that's kind of subjective. I'm pretty sure I probably don't remember the worst anime I've ever watched because it was probably so bland I can't remember but my vote goes for Yamazaki.

Like when you see something like ''Makoto-chan'' or ''Crayon Shin-chan'' you kind of forgive them because we've all met kids throughout our lives that are simply awful due to lack of atention, just like Arale from ''Dr. Slump'' kind of suffer from the same problem but it manifests in a different way.

But once you reach the later years of elementary school years and particularily when you reach 7th grade, you're supposed to grow out of that phase, and while still being kind of a pain in the neck at least you shouldn't still pretend to be hell incarnate.

That's where ''Gakkyu-oh Yamazaki'' (1997-98) comes into play, now I don't know if it was my age (I was always an old soul ever since I was like 8 years old) but I just couldn't stand the titular character's dastardly mean overall treacherous egotistical nastyness and his personal meastreatment and loathing to everyone else around him as if he was chosen by God to do so or something.

Like when you compare it to say ''Dotto! Koni-chan'', the main protagonist is the complete opposite to Yamazaki and you're soppossed to root for him and learn what not to do from the many characters that not only behave but are indeed awful but they get what they deserve in every episode, yet in Yamazaki's case, its the complete opposite, where the people who suffer at his expenses seldom get some reparations even when his plans are foiled, and not only does he succeeds every once in a while for I don't know what reason, but his wierd family always has nothing but praise him for him as if he was some sort of bizarro unsung hero.

And if he had been fully fledged as a villain such as Count Ludwig Presto Von Meinstein from ''Mon Colle Knights'', Horace from ''Cybot Robotchi'' or Etemon and Nanimon from ''Digimon Adventure'' I would've been fine with it, but he was always surrounded by good people portraying him as a force of good despite being awful to everyone.

I've heard there's a stereotype in Asia about a Chinese traditional folk hero named Goujin who is regarded as one of China's most beloved historic figures despite having come up with the most treacherous and nasty tactics in order to win his wars, so maybe that's the nuance I'm not getting from Yamazaki, but I hated the little bastard so much so to the point it made me feel sick from my stomach.

I'm still glad this was the only Anime that made me feel like that as opposed to so many American properties of the 90s and early 2000s.

Oh, I have some hot takes on these. While I tend to be fairly picky at finding anime to watch and generous when rating them, there were a few that managed to get a score of 4 or less (out of 10) on my MAL account.

Akame ga Kill, Terror in Resonance, B: The Beginning and Angel Beats were some of the ones I had a negative experience while watching. The first one was picked by my friends and was just too badly written and edgy for my taste. The last three felt fairly tryhard while being obnoxiously pretentious and shallow.

But the worse of all animes I ever watched was Speed Grapher. I know its kind of its point, but the whole thing was so fetishistic and weird that it made me extremely uncomfortable in many levels.

Oh that's interesting. Even tho I never watched it because its not my type of anime, as it has that post Y2K aura to it, I've heard good things about Akame ga Kill from not just commenters but also a couple of friends as well. When you say it was ''too edgy'' by any chance do you mean that the dialogues fall too flat like WWE challenges/threats or it has to do with something else?

Akame ga Kill just felt like a generic below average shounen. Fanservicey, weak story, low depth characters. It doesn't help that (if I recall correctly) the ending diverged a bit too much from the manga and took a completely rushed nonsensical direction. It wasn't particularly fun, and while the action and main characters were alright that was definitely not enough to leave a positive impression on me. Or on my friends, for what's worth it; they all dropped it and I was the only one that finished the series lol.

When I say it felt edgy, it was mostly because the show seemed to think that throwing around some unnecessary gore, abuse, and low effort deaths makes it mature, when it actually left the opposite impression on me.

Oh thanks. I guess my instincts were right when I decided to skip just for completely different reasons. If you want to know something odd, I had the exact opposite reaction to Redline (2009), when I first saw it I was immediatly drawn towards its animation style and guessed it was just fanservice for those of us who grew with with 70s and 80s anime, and just flashy but empty husk with low depth characters. Boy was I wrong. It's one of the best animes I've ever watched. It was good, so good in fact that it was one of the animes that got me to watch the newer stuff after the decade of Moe overabundance in the early 2000s.
