Thread title. It popped in my head just now while I was looking for the Haruhi Suzumiya light novels on eBay.

I think my biggest purchases are probably tabletop game books as I've spent some stupid amounts for ones I wanted for my collection, but out of "traditional" books I'm not really sure. I usually do a lot of searching before committing to a book purchase so I don't overpay.

I was never a book reader prior to this making me an addict, now I can’t stop coming back to it. It’s a hopeful tale of failure leading to success, so much stuff in it still deeply resonates with me.

Most of the ones I can think of are fancy TTRPG manuals, for normal literature, maybe Dune Deluxe Edition but I don't remember how much it costed, just that it was expensive at the time, or maybe it was Rendezvous with Rama with illustrations, or maybe the whole Ringworld series, hard to tell really.

Most expensive was probably importing the Phantasy Star Online Artbook. It was still only ~$50 though.

If we want to be technical it'd be any of my college textbooks. $120 for your course's book of choice is the 'murican way. And that was 20 years ago. :loldog

The most I ever spent on a book was the auction at which I got my 1683 Copy of Plutarch's Lives vol. 1 printed by J. Tonson, London. Of it's price, I shall not now speak. Obviously it's the oldest piece of media I have. It was a long time ago in the 2010's and is one of the relics of my antiquarian phase at the time. Strangely it's held up quite well through all the intervening years. Aside from the Latin abbreviations, it's very readable even with the inclusion of the long S. I could have got a Wii U Deluxe for that price. It's just too bad I didn't even know the Wii U existed at the time. ( I didn't even find out the Wii U had been a thing until just before the launch of the Switch.)

I bought Eorzea Encyclopedia 1-3. My bird destroyed 1 and 2, so I bought them again. So like £150 total for that series.

I once bought a friend a copy of We Have Always Lived in the Castle for her birthday, but it was a third printing. A first printing popped up before the third printing had shown up in the mail, so I ordered that too. It wasn't unreasonable, maybe like $125 total?

I remember spending a pretty penny on a book about the history of France, printed there before WW1 (so it's hilariously outdated), but other than that... Not that much.

I spent a lot of money on books, got more than 500(it´s not a big collection but it´s something), but specially on one particular book series: Asimov´s Robot/Foundation. Took me a lot of time/money since almost every book(here in Argentina) is discontinued but it´s finally complete.

My collection in its self is worth probably a grand, but the most i spent on a book is probably either an Eva artbook or the Bakuman box set, which was like 200$ (If it counts)

If it doesn't... then i'd probably say the Complete chronicles of Conan, but im going of the top of my head for this one... The price doesn't really matter to me lol

I've no clue, but I know it wasn't even spent in a entertaining book (college manuals)

I had to look back in my eBay history.. The most I ever spent on a single book was $164.28 for a copy of 'Advanced Karate' by Masutatsu Oyama w/ it's dust jacket, 5 years ago..

£120 for this, still trying to find a good price for Revenge Of The Lawn Gnomes version which at the moment is practically double.
