Like the title says

I wanted to make this thread because the craziest thing (for me) just happened recently, I was just enjoying some Wipeout Pure like usual

And then this happened
1000022311.png

This is just crazy to me because I thought I'd lose since I was losing speed and he's just right next to me, how is that even possible? ::poggurai

Wipeout is hard, I’d have been equally shocked if I ever won. For me it’s reaching flow-state in Kaboom for the 2600. Your eyes de-focus and your thoughts just kinda stop and when you snap out of it you’ve somehow gotten 30 rounds deep. Then you watch somebody else do it and it seems like there’s no way a human could process images that fast, much less react to them. Never had that with any other game. Closest thing was with Rockband.

Samus Aran-X's chasing in Sector 2, almost giving me a heart attack, in a 'so close, so far' situation (for many attempts)...
It counts, right? 😅
It does! Anything that'd surprised anyone counts!
Even if it's something not as surprising to the others, it would be surprising to you or me

It really reminds me of that quote "Be water my friend", it was like Ultra Instinct

Another one was fighting against Koga, in Pokémon Red.
Solo Blastoise versus that Weezing...
Used Self-Explosion. . .
I won the fight, my Blastoise survived...
However, I was stunned for some seconds, it was an intense gym leader battle.
(Now I understand in retrospect, why Koga is now one of them, in second generation)

One time i hit the DMT pipe and then picked up the controller and started playing Oblivion. I discovered the meaning of life while chasing a deer, but then i promptly forgot what it was.
DAMN! I guess you could say that it makes you feel oblivion ::peek

That's cool, Koga is one of the coolest looking ninja for a reason ::bigboss

When I played The Last Of Us (a game preceded by its awesome reputation) for the first time, everything was going great and I was sucked right into the story... until the game glitched the hell out as Tommy, Sarah and Joel got into the car, at which point the models froze, lost all textures and sorta glided into position. It was an immersion-breaking experience like no other, and I guess it really does speak to the game's merit that I managed to beat it several times afterwards.

Ah glitches, I love them
Sometimes it makes it fun and sometimes it's…well, why does it exist?

That must've been annoying though
Cartridge tilting Mario 2, i was seeing up to three backgrounds, fused enemies and illusionary ones.
The fact that i was using some eighties, famiclone didn't help, i guess.
That's new! The famiclone part explained a lot lol

It was the kind that had multiple games ingrained in the motherboard.
In terms of compatibility it worked fine for everything i remember playing, except for that crappy Simpsons game(Bart vs the space mutants)

Glitches. It's always the glitches. The one that pops-up in the foremost of my mind is Secret of Mana. It was my first time facing the Mana Beast and I was hyped. This game had fast become my favorite SNES game, and I was about to beat it. I'd used a few spells to test what would be most effective against the beast that looked waaay too much like Flammie for my liking and started wailing on the boss.

Two Hours Laster...

I'm utterly confused. I've been wailing on the boss seemingly forever, but it just won't die. The Girl and the Sprite had run out of Mana, and I'd run out of Faerie Walnuts, ages ago. I'm only doing chip damage to the boss after smacking it around for hundreds of HP initially in the fight. Somehow, and it's something I've never been able to repeat...I'd encountered a glitch that made the final boss invincible in some odd way.

I shut off the game, gave it a day, came back...and the final boss died in five minutes.

My sister and I used to play skyrim a lot back in middle school. When we discovered you could shoot fireballs at a dragon's skeleton to launch it across the map we thought it was the greatest thing ever.

I can't imagine how irritating that would be, it's a final boss too?! I kinda feel bad for you man, but I'm glad you finally beat it ::dkapproves

Yo twins? SAMEEEEE::poggurai
I love moments like that, reminds me of when my sister realized that she can actually just play those retro games with an emulator

i have another one: my band played a show at a nudist camp one time. They put us up in a big yurt that night.

We had this crazy 10,000 dollar xenon lit projector, and i had my NES with me because i was using the sound chip in the show.

that night i hooked up the nes to the projector and pointed it at the ceiling of the yurt and played little nemo.

it was CRAZY! It was like the game was literally 3D and we were inside it!

... oh yeah and everyone was on mushrooms!!

that was a good one

That's nuts lmao! I guess them mushrooms must've given them some "cinema" side effects

it was wild!! we used to have 4 of those things. My friend got them used from some school in san jose for cheap.

Each one had maybe 200 or 300 hours left on the bulb, so i tried to make sure to burn as many of them as he would let me playing video games on the side of buildings.

they were a legit 3000 ansi lumens DLP xenon projectors from 2004... only problem was that a replacement bulb cost $750... so once they were gone they were gone, but just looking at them made you feel like you were tripping

Must've been a bargain ::dkapproves

The first time I saw Emerald and Ruby weapon in FF7 shocked me to my core. I had beaten the game without ever encountering them and the guidebook I had only mentioned them in the back, which I hadn't sifted through yet. I would reload that save to grind and just explore the world, when I saw a peculiar red eye peering out from the sand near Gold Saucer. Having beaten Sephiroth and Ultima Weapon, I held no fear in my heart and immediately investigated.

Of course, just like anyone else who has tried this infamous fight would guess, it absolutely tore me apart. Seeing my characters drown in quicksand and go from hitting 9999 to barely scratching 1.5-2k on most hits is about as terrifying as it gets. It was the first time I remember feeling genuine fear and helplessness in a video game, I actually cried after that first attempt because it shattered my perception of my skill and strength in the game. I avoided that entire area like the plague from then on out.

A few days later I'd remember that the submarine existed and I decided to give it a look. Whilst exploring I saw Emerald Weapon in the distance, slowly skulking around the area. With Ruby Weapon still fresh in my mind I elected to avoid it like the plague, though when exiting Sunken Gelnika it would seem that Emerald Weapon had other plans. You see, one of the spots it can spawn and stay at is right outside the ship. If you aren't careful, when exiting the Gelnika area you can move forward too quickly and instantly trigger the fight. I fell right into this trap.

This time I almost felt like I had a chance though. The timer was certainly scary, but I was hitting big damage numbers and it didn't instantly one shot my party. After it switched stances my tune changed. A few eye beams and an Air Etam Storm later I was donezo. Each party member hit for 9999 damage. How could I possibly fight it? I once again felt helpless and refused to use the submarine for years.

Both of these encounters helped make the world of FF7 go from relaxing to horrifying almost overnight. Suddenly this world I thought I had fully explored and conquered appeared to not just hide side areas, but full godlike beings that would bring me to my knees. Pokemon Sapphire/Ruby would come out soon after and also get my young brain wondering on if a Sapphire weapon was hiding around anywhere, because I had forgotten that you actually see a blue weapon get destroyed by the mako cannon earlier in the game.

Was my introduction to fear, mystery and creating playground rumors about the secrets that could be hiding around in video games. 7 year old me would never be the same.

WOW…that's a really nice story! Your experience with games could be made as an article (just suggesting) because this is amazing!

I really love seeing how people discover things and how they approach it, great stuff ::dkapproves

Craziest things for me is 2 stories:

First is emulation related. I was playing Tony Hawk 1 on classicboy on my android phone (with a controller, because I'm not a complete troglodyte) and a random glitch would happen that caused my Skater to shoot 30-40 feet in a random direction when I tried to jump. Gave me a laugh, and pissed me off all at once. Just needed to switch cores and it was fine.

Second isn't much, but I was playing SFIII third strike like 15-ish years ago. Got to gil on the highest difficulty, had him beat, with a sliver of health left. And the MF resurrected on me.
I'm not pro level (at all) so I was BONED. Full stop. Almost rage quit. But I stuck with it and somehow won again.
So to me that was crazy

Ah emulation problems and CPUs difficulty, never fails to amaze me

Great story man ::dkapproves

One crazy and disappointing moment was: when my Brother completed Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Cell tournament in hard difficulty, and he unlocked King Cold.
Then we tried the character only to discover that he had only 2 life bars and was a worse version of freezer second form 😅
