What's the best Operating System you have ever used?

I had Windows XP for a very long time (2006-2014?) and enjoyed it. I also installed Linux Mint on my shitty College laptop (HP Compaq Presario) that had Windows Vista that was literally on it's last leg. Mint was buttery smooth, though finding out how to do stuff like play games was a bit of a headache

I also had a Compaq Presario CQ60 long ago!

I had Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 when I was little, then later on my teens Windows XP and Windows 7 were okay, on 2020 I started to use Windows 10.
Sadly after 7 it seems all went downhill and now Windows 11 seems a monster from what I read.

Windows 3.1 was my first experience with a computer OS. I don’t remember anything bad with it, it just worked with what I needed it to do. Plenty of hours sunk in playing Red Alert on that rig. Died due to a thunderstorm but my dad blamed me and my gaming instead. Brrrrrrrrr.

I know XP and 7 get a lot of love but is that post or pre service pack install? I used XP and 7 post service pack and found them to be well behaved.

10 & 11 oh God no I need to get Linuxing.

Windows XP for me. It worked well and looked good. I found programs to do custom themes for the UI and 2006 me thought it wouldn't get any better than gaming at 1024x768 on my crappy eMachine prebuilt PC. Seems like every other Windows is decent. Vista sucked, 7 was good, 8 was meh, 10 was good(and totally the last one forever), and 11 feels bad. Maybe the inevitable Windows 12 will be good?

For consoles, I really like the PS3 setup, even if it is inefficient. I also quite dig the PS Vita OS. The bright colors and app/folder bubbles gave it a lot of personality.

Windows 7, with Windows XP coming in 2nd place.

I didn't stop using Windows 7 until Steam ended support for it in Jan 2024 because everything just WORKED.
I hate windows 11 and I'm hoping that for my next machine I'll finally be able to make the leap to Linux

Windows XP and 7 were the best OS to use .

For consoles , i would take classic xbox because it looked so extremly futuristic and had all these beeps and boops which even handled really great except the rather slow zoom ins and outs which are cool but can still preplex people how to get into the wished settings . Another one is the classic xbox 360 slidedash-OS before they went boring with squares and lame Iphone UI -designs . Im a list-guy .
I like lists and hate when i only got 3-4 squares with pictures that are on the side and down under those other squares . Atleast put an cool icon to distinguish one game from another in a list .

Honorable mention :
PS3 & PSP OS . Genius and perfect design . ::winnie

Most hated UIs and OS:
What they did to the PS4 and PS5 UI isnt just horrible , its an utter mess made by an Shizo on Crack .::badpc

That i somehow understood the PS4 OS and UI was just pure luck and maybe i can speak cthulhian fluidly after this mess .

But the PS5 .... its designed to give up all logics and embrace total chaos . ::hellmo

Didnt had an Xbox one or Xbox series X but maybe those got worse too .

I don't have much experience with Microsoft operating systems. I've been using Android for years now and I'm satisfied with that but when I think about it, I like Steam OS too.

I would be tempted to say Windows XP, because of memories, but tbh I’m having a blast with Arch + KDE as desktop environment

I really like SteamOS, which offers a nice interface in game mode, and a more complete desktop for working.

But this is what I call perfection:

That actually blew me away the first time I saw it.

"A console... Doing computer stuff?! AHHHHHH!".

(Barely an exaggeration).

yall aint gonna like this but ... win11 ><

i havent experienced any ads (not a one). i do also daily drive an arch linux laptop for work and school. it works great. but when i need things to be DONE done and i want to unwind and just play a game, nothing does it better than windows. plus windows is still customizable. the biggest downside is all the agentic ai stuff and no local account stuff that's honestly rather recent, since i've been using windows for YEARS now.

i'll just gut out the stuff i don't like.

I am personally content with arch Linux. Has a few hiccups and it does lack some scripts needed to run a few niche games that aren’t natively in English but it’s otherwise fantastic.

I wish we got a hack version of XP with the QoL brought by Win7....

On the other hand could people tell me if Oracle SolarisOS is a good one?
