There are still some phone booths in my city but they're in a horrible state. They're extremely filthy, they smell bad, they've all been vandalized to different degrees and never fixed, etc. I'd never touch one, they literally smell like homeless people piss on them.Haven't seen a payphone since my mall rat days.
Ours weren't actual booths, but generally phones mounted on a wall. Perhaps that's why they never really reached such levels of disgusting misuse. There are still some phone booths in my city but they're in a horrible state. The last time I used one was probably 12-13 years ago, and even then I was probably the only person I know who did (I used to just buy time cards for my cell phone so sometimes I ran out and needed to use a payphone). I don't know why they don't just remove them.
Or connected-to-the-ground boxes atop a short pole with a bit of a weather shield above the parts of it you interact with?Ours weren't actual booths, but generally phones mounted on a wall. Perhaps that's why they never really reached such levels of disgusting misuse.
Yeah! I had almost forgotten about those.Or connected-to-the-ground boxes atop a short pole with a bit of a weather shield above the parts of it you interact with?
This is only half true currently
Yeah, I haven't seen a payphone since 2011 or so. I've definitely dealt with landlines since then, all of which were cordless. Leaded gasoline was way before my time, thank god, at least in the US. I don't think it's a coincidence that all the countries that still use it are warzones or Orwellian dystopias ruled by oppressive regimes like the Taliban or the Kims. It still gets used a bit in Formula 1 as well as for Avgas for piston-driven aircraft though. Both payphones and landlines still exist, but definitely not in the amount they used to.
The one that I think of that isn't fully gone but is on its way, is leaded gasoline. My first car ran on leaded gasoline, and even back then it was really tough to find a station that still had it.

Do you know what happened to the record player? If it's the belt, that's like a $20 fix in some cases.
