What would Sony have to do to make you buy a PS6?

I will never buy a PS6.

Sony officially lost my business after my launch model 20 GB PS3 got the YLOD and they refused to fix it. This was coming on the heels of my PS2 dying after only owning it for a few years. I was an idiot for giving them my money a second time, and there will be no third 😤

BUT! For the sake of discussion...

If they ever wanted to lure me back in, they would have to start with the controller. I hate the DualShock layout. I always have. Thing is, I liked the original PlayStation controller just fine! And when I play PS1 games, I exclusively use that digital controller. But I always thought the DualShock design looked so half-assed, like they were trying to save money by using the existing controller molds and just gluing some joysticks onto the bottom of it.

It has always felt awkward and uncomfortable to me, and I am positively stunned that it has persisted for so long without a major revision. Make something more in line with the Xbox controller or Switch Pro controller, and I will be interested.

Also, given my own experiences with Sony's hardware, I always go back to this NSFW video from The Onion:

"Sony Releases Stupid Piece of S*** That Doesn't F****** Work"

😝

let me run linux on it, make the online free, have awesome exclusives, have a simple yet unique UI, have the ability to watch media on my home server and oh fuck i just described the ps3 again...
You also just described a PC

I don't own a PS5 but I just had this instinct that the PS5 was going to be bad anyway mostly because of the degradation of video gaming in general caused by the gaming industry. So I never owned a PS4 nor 5.

PS3 is the best as far as the technological leap between previous consoles , the immense library of quality games, and PS3 online is still FREE!

PS3 online is free
PS3 has full PS1 backwards compatibility and PS2 as well (for the most part)

and on top of all that...the leap between PS1&2 to PS3 is HUGE. PS3 is graphically impressive and to be honest the leap from PS3 to PS4 and 5 has never been significant.

Will buy if there is a disc reader that is backward compatible with every single generation and allow PS3 purchase migrations, 2 TB minimum storage, no online verification for games, no region locks, pass the controller without PS Plus (as a bonus), and I'll go hungry if needed.

Imo it's simple: they have to justify its existence.
I received my ps5 as a gift and truly, before I got a pc, I did most of my gaming on my switch because there was a full and vibrant library of fun games. The PS5 was sort of my console to play multiplat games the Switch couldn't run well. I don't think there was a single first party Sony game that came out this gen that made the ps5 worth it, literally all of them could have lowered some graphic settings and res and run on ps4 (and most of them did). One of the biggest releases this gen was another release of The Last of Us and a remake of Horizon Zero Dawn, which maybe I'm getting old and time feels faster but Horizon still feels like a very recent game that wasn't in need of any upgrade. It feels like they're making very little of value and when they do, it feels quite tone deaf. Obviously still quite a cut above Microsoft's offerings this gen, but sort of by default. I'm no Nintendo fanboy but when they're putting out 6-10 fun exclusives a year and Sony is putting out MAYBE 1 it doesn't feel like a contest. Towards the end I realized I was mostly playing Fortnite and Final Fantasy 14 on the PS5 and I could just buy a pc and have a better experience with both, so I did. I had the Ps PLUS highest tier for years and almost never felt like the money justified the experience. Maybe I just have niche tastes. I don't know what the kids like these days, and I don't know why the PS5 exists.

I don't think much of anything could persuade me to get a PS6, not even another pandemic to kill the boredom nor a Bloodborne remake or a sequel.
PS5 is the last console for me, sticking to PC and retro systems.

Make it $100 and backwards compatible with all other PlayStations

If Sony really, really wants me back they gotta make a console cost less than $400. Anything above a $400 price point makes me think "man I can just upgrade my pc with a better part for a little more and it'll last longer than one console generation". I also want them to reevaluate what Sony as a games developer is doing. PS1 and PS2 were magic because they would give studios (Cough Japan Studio Cough) a reasonable budget to make games that were fun to play. Their latest push for "the cinematic" is really losing me. I know they're targeting the handful of people who buy a console and buy maybe two AAA games a year, but I am so tired of Horizon and The Last of Us Sony. I want them making weird fun exclusive games like Ape Escape and Legend of Dragoon and PaRappa.

And no paying for online connectivity. And if it has a disc drive, I better be able to play any game from a Sony console in it. And a virtual console where I can buy those games. And a controller that doesn't break when I sneeze too hard. And no AI bullshit garbage.

I think the biggest deal breaker for me will be when we finally move to the all digital console market.

Doesn't matter what features the console will have otherwise, because the games on the PS Store are already way too expensive as it is (More than the equivalent of $80 USD in my country).

For all of that said, I will be tested when whatever Ratchet & Clank, Astro Bot or Yakuza games may come out for the PS6 that also aren't available on PS5 ::sailor-embarrassed

It better have a disc drive. I was not happy that I had to buy a separate drive for the Pro consider the price tag. I've seriously withdrawn from PC gaming minus the indie stuff that doesn't appear on consoles so I could get physical copies when possible.

Well if Sony gave me the money I would buy it as I am broke AF.
But on a more serious note here are my demands if I had the money to buy the Ps6.

Games (I know crazy but a Console should actually have games unlike the Ps5)

Backwards Compatibility till the Ps4

NO PSN Subscription for Online Multiplayer

Drop the Digital Shit and switch back to physical media (AKA OWN THE SHIT YOU BUY)

Not prices that go to the high heavens so games that cost (60€ at max preferable lower)

NO AI Slop in the Psn Store I heard this a problem on the Ps5

Actual Quality control on the PSN Store no Slop and other bullshit on there.

NO Fucking Games where you own the Physical Disc and are still forced to have a online connection to download the game anyway.

NO Censorship (Stop Censoring your Games for the Western Market we are not toddlers most of us are grown adults act accordingly)

And overall be a less Shitty company I don't need a Nintendo 2.0

And its sad that it needs to be even said Don't release a broken Console no Crashes and as few bugs as possible I am not paying to be a Console Tester Sony

NO POLITICS (I don't fucking care if Sony is Right or Left they are a company that sells a product I should not care what they believe in private a Video Game console should be mutual Inclusive to enjoy for people who enjoys them and pushing Politics Alienates one side of your costumer base and is actually pretty stupid to do to begin with)

and this is probably all I have to say for now and I know that those are sadly pretty unrealistic to demand from a Greedy Company that would throw babies into the fire to make another dime but here I go anyway.

It would need games for me to consider buying one. I need a reason to want an expensive console.
This past console generation has been the worst I've ever experienced. I have an Xbox Series X and I've regretted buying it for years now. There's nothing worth playing on it. I have a very good PC and there just isn't a reason to even power up the Xbox. If it wasn't for GTA6 I would have sold the console ages ago. And now I really wish I would have just sold it anyway. And to add fuel to the fire. The Xbox One X was better for backwards compatibility than the Series X. I have absolutely no desire for a PS5. My PS4 Pro that I also haven't turned on in over a year would already do everything I would want from a PS5. I don't believe physical media is going to continue much longer. Nor do I believe that actual video game console hardware is going to continue much longer. We might get one more generation for both, but I would be surprised if there was another after. And once either of those happen I will permanently be out of the Console market. If you don't want to physically sell me the video game, then I'll just find a way to get it with out rewarding their dubious efforts of selling me the privilege to not own their garbage. Either through extreme sales or other means.

To make me buy a PS6. Well with the price it will cost either give ma a blow job every day for a year or. Be better than my PC, Allow me to play all PS1 to PS5 games on it or give med the same modding freedom as PC does.

Consoles today have becomes so damn expensive you can get a good gaming PC for the same price. Also PC offers me way more freedom of playing old and new games and mod games like skyrim or fallout or rimworld and so on.

"yes you could mod skyrim on the ps4 but Sony being such twats the mods you could use is so limited because Sony so scared you are only allowed to use mods that uses in game assets and not new assets making the mods so basic there is no point in modding the game.

Nah man it´s about time consoles died and Sony focus on making games for PC and maybe port Demon souls remake to PC and bloodborn so the bloodborn fans can shut the hell up about that crap game.

Lets see.... on one hand, you can buy an expensive console with some (or little) games of interest that will be in a range of 80-100 punches in the wallet cuz DEM GRAPICZ!!

On the other hand, you can get a decent PC that lets you play some of the same games, there are emulators, and you can use it even to work (yes, is a shock that a pc can be used for work!!!)

But then again, on my foot there is this little problem:

Will it do enough to make it a necessary upgrade?, for example a NVIDIA 4080 really doesn't need to upgraded to a 50 series any time soon as an example. I can't imagine any games I actually want being exclusive to it bar wolverine 2, which is easily 4-5 years away. Stellar blades sequel will likely be multiplatform on release. Square Enix have put a stop to having games on only one platform.

Honestly Sony's exclusives bar spider man 1 and the upcoming wolverine are all the same boring game type of over the shoulder action game but ghost of tsushima was easily the best of those Sony games as it was great in all the ways it needed to be compared to the others and it's best played on a ps5 or PC, that game was beyond the ps4's capabilities same for death stranding. I waited for the ps5 to play FF7 remake and Ghost of Tsushima and they ran and looked much better on ps5 than my ps4. The ps4 just wasn't a great machine for, Ironically, Sonys own games during the latter years of the ps5.

I currently have a ps5 and I have been happier with that console overall for various reasons than I have my ps4 or ps3. A slim ps5 with a disc drive and no coil whine from the fan. I use it as a 4k player and crunchyroll app machine at the moment as I've been playing some games I like mostly on steam for shorter sessions, have no time for longer sessions on the games I have on my ps5, before that though I've logged many hours across many games on that same ps5.

I've been playing the Sony machines since their launch, even the handhelds, except the vita, got one of those recently. My ps3 is my region free DVD/Blu ray player and it plays a few games that don't emulate well. My ps4 pro was a noisy piece of shit that I couldn't wait to get rid of. The ps5 is everything the ps4 should have been from a functionality point. Except for the fact I can't stop the recording blocked notification. Fuck Sony for that one.

All that said though, having played the demo of space marine 2 on my laptop at the highest settings, I honestly would not recommend someone put together a desktop that makes use of a 5090 RTX or even get a laptop that uses a 5070 TI or higher instead of getting a console if you just want to play the latest games, it isn't night and day different by any means and hasn't been for the last half decade. You don't need an expensive PC or laptop to play games at a high resolution, so don't do waste money on it, as a console is cheaper if you're chasing optimised modern high graphic fidelity games.

The difference in say space marine 1 on the ps3 versus playing the same game on my current laptop is night and day different in terms of performance, no question, but the days of PC being vastly superior are well and truly over and it's about convenience.

For me, a ps6 will likely be the same as a switch 2, I don't want one and I don't need one. The current model suits my needs so it's very likely a few years away before I need one. The next big Zelda game or Mario game may draw me in but they're a while away too.

TLDR; I loved the ps5 slim with a disc drive as my ps4 was a noisy piece of crap, however I likely won't have much interest in a ps6 at all as there really isn't any need for it, not for me or even in the market either, I don't sense any demand for a ps6. Don't get a pc with a modern expensive GPU instead of a console, it's not what the gas lighters are claiming. Get a cheaper machine or get a console.

have exclusives that arent on PC all the time, THEN i'll buy a PS6

Here's my two cents. First, at the very least it has to have backwards compatibility with PS4 and PS5 games. These systems use x86 software architecture so there's no reason they can't play on a PS6.

Secondly, have more exclusive games that make getting the system worth it. They can eventually get ported to PC, but I think having them remain PS6 exclusive for 2-3 years first would be a good compromise. Otherwise, there's no reason to get one vs. building a new PC.

Third, allowing me to play the digital games that I bought on my PS3. I know that PSX games are simple enough to emulate that even phones can run them, so not being able to play the ones I got back then is frustrating. I get that PS3 games are more of a nuisance to get running due to the alien Cell architecture, but being able to play games stuck on it like Hard Corps or Yakuza Dead Souls would be enticing if they can pull it off.

Fourth, make the controller lighter, or at the very least cheaper for customers. A DualSense feels a bit too heavy IMO, and the touchpad still goes underutilized in the majority of games so removing it in the PS6 controller would help make it cheaper to produce. Otherwise, I'd like it if they'd make it easier for companies to produce third party controllers for it so I can find cheaper alternatives like I can for the Switch.

Oh, and have a model with the disk drive so I can play my disks on it. I'm the type of weirdo that loves physical copies of games, and I'd be fine if the have versions with and without it just as long as they offer the option.

Probably have ps3 and ps2 games or just mods
