what will you guys think will happen to RGT in 10-20 year

Tbh I don’t mind the thought, perhaps because of how platforms like twitter, TikTok and such have turned out. Smaller communities are easier to manage, also there’s just something cozy about smaller sites.

I don’t think retro gaming will go anywhere, the site might sizzle out because all things come to an end eventually. Retro gaming itself will only grow stronger as more and more games are made, more times passes, like fine wine
Agreed. Realistically it's the best outcome we can expect given present circumstances, a small section of the internet reserved for real nerds and enthusiasts, similar to how the old internet used to be compared to offline.

Tbh I think people are way too dramatically pessimistic, it’s exhausting. I don’t think people are ever going to stop using the internet because of bots. There will always be groups that seek to capitalize on anything possible in the cheapest possible way, and there will always be people that are uninterested in their nonsense.
That's the part that always worries me. Those big companies have been rampaging for a long time now.
perhaps I’m just too optimistic but I wouldn’t worry about it too much, as long as companies make it inconvenient access media (also stupid expensive) people will fight against it; Maybe there will be a fearful period, though I feel they’ll give up quick, realizing their spending resources on something that won’t make them money.

Well said, well said.

also bots don’t have money so the people spreading them like a virus will be shit out of luck if/when they chase away all the real people lol

There's no way of predicting what will happen. We can only guess based on other situations:
  • Becomes mostly forgotten as other sites replace it in popularity (Zophar's Domain)
  • Is considered outdated by most as new tech replaces it. (GameFAQs)
  • Collapses when another site does the same but better (Kuro5hin ➞ Wikipedia)
  • Gains popularity, but at the cost of the Eternal September effect (newsgroups)
  • Is forgotten, but then has a resurgence decades later when it gets attached to something new (chat rooms)
  • Gets nerfed by the Big Guys (Vimm)
  • Gets nerfed in a cyber attack (Archive)
  • Gets completely remade in a new technical form (P2P ➞ torrents)
  • Ruins itself trying to become more popular (Digg)
  • Sells out (Reddit)
  • Is still not doing that bad, but less popular because of other similar sites' popularity (Slashdot)
  • Destroyed in a hostile takeover (Twitter), only to be reborn decentralized (Bluesky)
  • Becomes something completely different (COnnecticut LEather COmpany)

there is a way of predicting what will happen. its called personal experience. see first itll start off strong full of life in its 20s riding high on attention and praise but by like 27 the cracks will show. chasing trends desperate to stay relevant trying to convince itself its still "cool" but deep down itll know its not fooling anyone. friends will drift away and late nights will get quieter filled with long stares at the ceiling wondering if it peaked. probably by 30 itll settle into a loveless partnership with some corporate overlord. the passion will be gone replaced by routine and quiet resentment itll still put on a good face in public but behind the scenes itll drink itself numb scrolling through old screenshots of its glory days. every so often itll genuinely try to reignite the spark but that always just ends up feeling more like a performance than anything real. until its just a husk of its former self trudging through the motions existing out of habit

enshitifeid to death by inactivity cause of the modern audience coming to the site and older users moving on.

personally, i know the people here will try their best to make this community live long, real long, but if you ask me about this community's future? idk, we'll just have to find out, i bet this will just be that small little cove everyone keeps coming back to

2# won't happen either because what the hell could happen that the answer would be to shut down the forums permanently. Number 3# is the most realistic. I'd say the day that the people from the writers guild stop posting articles is when the place will lose steam.
Reminds me of when I found myself falling down a rabbit hole because I saw the most absurd comments about Chrono Cross on an old video game forum from a user named Video Game X. Googled the user as a joke to find more posts only to find out that they were a self-proclaimed social experiment only probably-not-really who had their own fansites and a particularly insane forum. When 9/11 happened the forum split off into two separate websites because some users agreed that the US instigated it and the other portion didn't.

I wish I still had the links to the wiki someone made about the escapades because the remnants of the forum were locked down super hard when I tried poking around so I could only grab a handful of screenshots using wayback machine.

It was called the Kakain forums or something? That isn't how its spelled but that's how I said it phonetically, can't seem to remember as its been 6-7 years.

Become completely overrun with the ResetEra/NeoGAF/Reddit Gaming audience of angry, miserable, socially-psychotic millennials, who'll continue to age into irrelevance as they argue about politics on a video game forum;
A bit too late for that I am afraid :-(

Personally I don't think the forum has any strong foundation at all, it's more reminiscent of a random discord server then anthing else.
Fantasising about future that won't come sarves no purpose.

me personally I don't know but I think it would be, not the best but still thriving form website because there will always be retro consoles
Depending on the admins of this website, if they hid this well from giant companies then this website will be good for at least another 5 years or so. Big tech kinda killing piracy and retro gaming with it. They might see this website and attack the repo part of it.

The Repo is a valuable place, the articles that are written here are of high quality, the discussion or debate on various topics is held in an atmosphere of respect and above all the people who orbit this small planet is something that should last a long time...

Let's not talk about the future...
Let's drink orange juice and live in the present...🐥🧡
