me personally I don't know but I think it would be, not the best but still thriving form website because there will always be retro consoles

RGT will either:
  1. Become completely overrun with the ResetEra/NeoGAF/Reddit Gaming audience of angry, miserable, socially-psychotic millennials, who'll continue to age into irrelevance as they argue about politics on a video game forum;
  2. Get into some controversy so bad that the forum part of the site will be shut down, though the articles (perhaps sans comments) and the Repo will remain; or
  3. Remain active for a few years, but slowly wither out until only a few dedicated regulars are left – who, eventually, will part ways, with some keeping up on Discord and others being simply forgotten.
I'm gunning for #3 myself, but #1 is most likely. Snarkily quote this post in a decade and prove me wrong!

I think the future of the internet in general (especially in regards to piracy) will consist of small walled-off communities in a sea of bots, corporate websites and AI generated slop. RGT could be one of those communities if it sticks around.

Is it not, now?

Get stronger as the newer generation of videogames will become "retro" and there will always be gamers trying to find ways to play their old favorites. Cycle continues!

We will be here, 20-30 years older.

I was going to say something similar. i don't think 1# will ever happen because those people already have their spaces where they spent time and such so i don't see any redditors coming here because we don't have a system that allows them to manipulate discourse like they do with upvotes/downvotes. 2# won't happen either because what the hell could happen that the answer would be to shut down the forums permanently. Number 3# is the most realistic. I'd say the day that the people from the writers guild stop posting articles is when the place will lose steam.

The articles are nice, but it is ultimately the people themselves that keep the vital movement of this place. All kinds of positive interactions keep this place going.

Forums and communities are somewhat of a timeless thing, they all have their life cycles of death and birth, it's quite charming to think about it this way.

all of you guys are right
if RGT goes extinct it's on us
if RGT gets overrun by ai bots it's on us

It's grown on me too.
Not just because I get to rant about all the games I've spent all my life playing, either;
It's the only community I've really been able to connect with, on this level.
this is the first comment that's not a meme that made a smile on my face

ideally? it'll stick around, albeit kept tightly underground (mostly on the grounds of the repo)
realistically? the torch will be handed off between several different hands and said hands we'll just have to wait and see how bad or good they do
worst case scenario? nintendo among others finally catch wind and at most the repo and the forum get taken off leaving perhaps only the articles in some capacity

truth be told there isnt a right or wrong answer what happens, whoever is in charge will have to make the calls

Tbh I don’t mind the thought, perhaps because of how platforms like twitter, TikTok and such have turned out. Smaller communities are easier to manage, also there’s just something cozy about smaller sites.

I don’t think retro gaming will go anywhere, the site might sizzle out because all things come to an end eventually. Retro gaming itself will only grow stronger as more and more games are made, more times passes, like fine wine

I say we hard reset earth

I'm going in to the earths settings
