Anime What was your introduction to anime?

Captain Tsubasa. Then they aired Pokemon and Dragon Ball but I still took them as "cartoon" but what made me see animes beyond a cartoon was Death Note.

One day one of my friend who is too much into animes enough to cosplay characters recommended me Death Note so I decided to watch it because plot was interesting. While anime wasn't that good it made me see potential for "serious non-childish animes" but I mostly found soft-porns having an excuse for a story lol. I only liked few animes among many I watched because they are rubbish.

I had seen Pokemon, Digimon, DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu-Yu-Hakusho, Beyblade etc, all well before I knew what the heck anime was, so I don't really count any of them.
Inuyasha is the first anime I remember watching after I found out what anime was.

Dragon Ball Z was also my first and also my favorite.
After that I started watching other anime such as City Hunter, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell,...

I haven't watched a lot of new ones but I think it's time I remedy that.
Heard a lot of good things about Berzerk so I'll probably start with that.
Any other I should watch?

Pokemon XYZ, DBZ and then Madoka Magica. Man PMMM blew my mind away when I first watched it. I love its mixed-media approach it's beautiful.

It all started with Goldorak (UFO Robo Grendizer). I couldn't have been much older than two or three (it's one of my earliest clear memories). I know this anime isn't really a big deal in Japan. But in my country, it profoundly impacted an entire generation.

That said, I was a bit too young to properly appreciate it (same problem for Captain Herlock). No, I think what really got me hooked was Dragon Ball (the first series and Z, of course),.

Edit : I'd shamefully forgotten how important Captain Tsubasa was for the kid I was. I also wanted the soccer ball to become my friend ⚽

if you're looking for something a bit more contemplative, I'd recommend any of Yoshitoshi Abe's works they're beautiful. Serial Experiments Lain has been getting more traction lately but if you liked Ghost in The Shell I think you'd like Texhnolyze

Every kid who watched Tsubasa wanted to destroy the laws of physics by using a ball therefore they tried so hard but the laws of physics are cruel lolol.

Same could be said for people growing up watching Dragon Ball :loldog

I did watch anime back during my childhood but never knew it was anime with stuff like Witchblade, Shin-chan, and Azumanga Daioh of the sort. Didn't even know what a Japan was lol. Probably the first anime I actually watched knowing it was an anime was Durarara on Toonami back in the day (my memory is very old tho so I might forget some details).

Daimos is such a real first anime, God I love that series a ton.

A few come to mind like FLCL and Sailor Moon but the real answer is GS Mikami, I fell in love with the Super Famicom game and decided to check out the show and it changed my mind on anime, Been watching it ever since.

Witchblade is quite the anime for someone to watch as a kid hehe ::sailor-embarrassed I watched it in my teens, and didn't know for ages it was based on an American comic book.

I admit I tried to do kamehameha but I tried "impossible ball physics" more and more seriously lolol.

However I was never a soccer guy but Tsubasa gave me idea for my beloved basketball. I was like hitting the ball on the floor so hard I got used to scoring thus, eventually my school had to ban that move because they believed it won't count if score happens after it bounce from floor so their idea for score was shooting it in air without ball touches the floor lol. I even checked public library for basketball rules that none said how a score should happen or if my move is illegal. I even wrote a formal letter to ministry of education but they didn't care so I was like "fuck this" and ignored being pro. Imagine you are so good at something but stupid rules are in your way after so much training SMH lol.

Digimon and Big O were two shows I loved before I knew what anime was. But it was definitely FLCL that made me actually care about the story.
