I think I played some Pico VN on newgrounds when I was like 6 but, Katawa Shoujo will always have a special place in my heart as the first actual VN I ever played.
Then shortly after ended up playing Clannad and Ace Attorney.

Oh man, True Love -95, its been a while, I was so confused when playing that game for the first time, I thought it was gonna be an RPG with like dating elements lmao, but it turned out to be a great game

I just remembered a parody VN on Newgrounds, it´s called Out of Reach.
I replayed it for a bit like 1 month ago and it´s really fun, it makes fun of a lot of otaku stuff.

Out of nowhere? The intro gave us fair warning that it'd get dark, even when there's a light hearted tone for a lot of the time.

Ha, yeah that's true. It is a dark plot from the beginning. What I don't like is the SA stuff that is common in a lot of eroge VN. To be fair it is mostly optional, but it can get pretty messed up. The game does have occasional negative consequences if the player does SA actions so that is a step above the average eroge game.
