What was your first gaming disappointment?

When my dad came home with a brand spanking new SNES sf2 bundle and it didn't work. I knew it was coming invited all my mates around to play and it was faulty. So embarassing but dad took it back the next day got an exchange told my mates but out of 8 who came the day before only my best mate Neal came over. We played sf2 all night and all my other mates were jealous

My Absolute first gaming disappointment but here are some.
Nina bread man had a interesting cover but was utter rubbish shovel ware.
When my Naruto and Thrilville game on my Ps2 stopped working.
How many times my Ps2 broke down as a kid I had many times coming home from School just to find out that my Ps2 was send away to repairs again ::angrygenjinanyhow my childhood Ps2 did not make it and I got a new one as a Adult either on my Birthday or Christmas I can't remember.

Dark Souls 2 great concept poor execution sadly as I really liked the graphics of the game.
And Ps plus I hate it deeply I enjoyed Multiplayer on my Ps3 which I already had to pay the Console and Game and Internet connection for but those where all I had to pay and then comes sony on Ps4 and demands even more costs with Ps plus to allow us to play online a feature that was free before.

Fallout 4 I was hyped for the game I played Fallout 3 and I was excited to play it just to feel underwhelmed the story was boring the companions where okay though but the story was just not that good and I did not get invested in it.

Little big Planet 3 I just did not enjoy it I much more fancy the Second game the third one was not my cup of tea my lads.

Tekken and Soulcalibur on my Ps4 the game is good but I utterly hate it if characters are locked behind a paywall utterly vile in my opinion I payed for the full game then give me the damn full game and do not get into my wallet all the time especially considering how expensive those games normally are.

Don't push button.

Don't.

For God's sake, just don't.
If that's the way I go then so be it.

I saw Final Fantasy: Spirits Within in theaters when it came out lol. I was pretty young still and had only played FFIV and VII so my expectations were high. Needless to say I was a very frustrated and confused kid leaving the theater. In retrospect, I don't think the movie was dog shit but it was a bit stale haha.

Well that's just what happens when the series creator chooses to take the basic formula of a Final Fantasy game and place it in a generic post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting instead of creating an original story in the tradition of the games.

Yeah generic is the word for it. I wonder if it was more Final Fantasy flavored and western control groups watered it down or if Uematsu just tried to make it that way on purpose. There certainly are themes in the movie that FFish like the nature and technology and spirituality dichotomies but it's just not very full or strong. Definitely a huge letdown to a ten or eleven year old kid looking to see crazy summons and eccentric characters and more whimsy lol

Guess I should mention mine: Resident Evil Village. Gameplay was great, but the story... It's bad. It's really bad. Even by RE standards, it sinks below the bottom of the Earth's crust and settles into a festering, self-righteous, retcon-laden idiot plot that destroys what little logic there was left in the RE universe.

Every franchise deserves to experiment with itself, but it also needs to remember the fundamentals of what it was as it does so. At least it has bitchin' cover art.
EDIT: And yes, RE6 is much worse. But I knew it would be worse going in. 6 is the only mainline game in this franchise I genuinely consider "bad". Village is mediocre at worst.

I remember Electronics Boutique selling Dreamcast games on a clearance endcap with old PC games. I was the only person ever looking at this endcap when I was there. Every Dreamcast game was like $0.99-$4.99. While I loved getting cheap games, it was sad knowing that it was the end.
Oh man Remember...

The first one was Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. It was the Nintendo age.
All I had was the cartridge. No box, no manual and no Nintendo Power.
I would leave the NES on for multiple days at a time between when I was able to play and I remember it getting knocked and the game would freeze. Sometimes it would freeze on it's own. One time I was grinding hearts to buy the morning star and left only the NES on and my parents noticed it and turned it off. Eventually I started hiding the power light by putting stuff in front of the NES. Soon enough I had all the items and had been everywhere I could go. I got to the cliff in the wastes and had no idea what to do. I backtracked through the entire game looking for something I had missed but couldn't figure out what to do next. I did manage to figure out on my own how to get the silver knife in the graveyard by dropping garlic back then though. I did finally beat the game in the late 90's, and if I remember correctly I killed Dracula with the garlic.

I do agree with this. Village is somewhat redeemed for me by its gameplay - it's a very fun time for the first 2/3, and though it drags on a bit, I think it generally lands on its feet.

The story, though, does suck. 'Self-righteous' is a great description of it. It's supremely overconfident for characters and a tale that I do not care about. Never bothered with the Rose DLC, specifically because I heard it was 'more story focused'. Miss me with that, thanks.

It's not at all surprising to me that the only people praising the narrative are self-righteous video essayists on Youtube who worship anything that's "different" regardless of if its good or not.

Thankfully, for Requiem, I have to say that Grace's Condemned-inspired story is shaping up to be an improvement on the second half of Ethan's, and it is being made with the involvement of those who actually worked on VII: Biohazard, so...
EDIT: I'm not kidding about the cover art for Village. It's ironically my favourite RE cover art.
