What was the first console to "wow" you?

It was PlayStation 2. Huge games, pretty realistic 3d graphics, many peripherals to connect. What more is needed to impress someone who knows mostly 8/16-bit era games?

Playing them on the go maybe

The Wii, of all things.

What do you mean I could play Call of Duty with an actual gun prop? I never got to use a Wii but that was insane for my kid brain.

i guess the ps2 because it seemed like a pretty big leap from ps1 - i remember seeing the "gran turismo 3 " replay graphics and thinking it looked like a car commercial.

My first console was PS1 and I was always impressed by the third dimension being able to fit inside my TV. It was inconceivable to me that graphics were ever going to get better than that.

The very first time...
The Sega Genesis. At the time with the pack in of Altered Beast and Golden Axe ports. Hearing voice samples at the time. Hell, the Genesis version of Golden Axe had an extra level and the duel. While on Altered Beast with a code you could change what Beasts you turned into.

They were at the time good ports of the arcade games. Ironic for me that once the Genesis was out for a bit, arcades around me began to phase out those two games.
