What video game made you a gamer?

While I had played some games before these, my love for video games as a medium started with these 4 games, I'd say.

Super Mario Galaxy 1
Pokémon Diamond
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 (EoT, EoD, EoS)
Mario Kart DS

Mario Kart and Pokémon Diamond were great games to use as a way to socialize and make friends with the kids at my school.

PMD2 and Galaxy 1 blew my mind through their music and atmosphere.

I know, there isn't any atmosphere in space - you get what I mean!

Excitebike on NES, Race Drivin' arcade. The latter specifically, I have amazing memories of. 1989, going to the arcade. The popcorn place was across from Alladin's Castle. Everytime I smell caramel corn I get all nostalgic.

After the great crash of the 80s, I always thought to myself video games would come back. Adults around me thought games had been "just a fad" so good riddance in their minds. No one around me had computer to rebut this. The only games you'd see were arcade games at places like Chucky Cheese's. Few and far between. No body would be playing them. Like it was uncool now.

Then one day, I'm shown the NES. "Hey look it's that Mario guy from Donkey Kong in his own game." Thought to myself "Games are coming back...."
Though, the first NES games weren't doing it for me. Remember, just word of mouth what's good, no TV, no internet to tell you what games to stay away from. Rental wasn't a thing yet.

Then, one day I was introduced to this game. And for better or worse, led the years from then into now...

It started the journey into madness, and sealed the deal.

I got flooded with "edutainment" games on the PC because my mom was a convinced I would forget everything over the summer. If I had to pick one in particular, it would be Reading Blaster 9-12. You control a little monster called Rave and explore a haunted house where several notable monster citizens went missing.

I remember that the haunted house really freaked me out. It was lonely and intimidating in a way that I hadn't experienced in a game before, so I always felt like I was in danger while solving word problems.
