What video game made you a gamer?

Final Fantasy VII, when I was about 9 or 10. I had a SNES before and played a lot of Nintendo games like any other kid, but I never really got into games until I got a PlayStation. That's when I started buying game magazines and asking for games for Christmas. Haven't stopped loving games since then.

I played this game when I was 7 and it changed my life.

For me it was not 1 but 3 GameCube games that changed my childhood and my life forever like Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (2003), Super Smash Bros. Melee (2001) and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (2006) and I played them for the first time in 2007 when I was a little boy (6 Years Old).

Ms. Pac-Man. Little kid me attempting to make a dent in the arcade's local high scores was... foolish, to say the least 🤓

I think I really started to commit to "getting good" during the fighting game craze of the 90s. Thoroughly learned the ins-and-outs of Street Fighter II, in particular. Arcade, SNES, Genesis, didn't matter - I was always ready to throw down with anyone, and adored a true challenge.

Win or lose, I did my best to learn and improve. It felt like a honest sport, in that regard. I won a bunch. I lost a bunch. But more importantly, I understood why I lost, and knew what to look out for the next time.

I eventually won a tournament hosted by my local arcade. The prize? Two rolls of quarters! Which I promptly blew that same afternoon 😆

Honorable mention goes to GoldenEye 007. Every day after class in high school, me and the buds would throw down for hours on end. Good friends, cheap beer, and bad weed - a winning teenage combination! Quite possibly the happiest times of my life, up to that point 🥰

Tricky question...

I started playing (and loving) video games as a child with Super Mario and Megaman 2, on the Nes. Then I remained a gamer for a while until PS3 and HD video games came. I just didn't like the new stuff that was comin' out ::puke

As I remember, it was a time when Japanese video games were in trouble ; Japanese companies were dedicated to offer games to the Western public (by the end of the 2000's, Japanese market was not so lucrative by then...)

And I, who was a person lovin' mostly "authentic" Japanese video games, I was a bit depressed by the new offer. So I quit gamin' for a while...

Until the PS Vita came out, at least. Gravity Rush, Muramasa Rebirth, Persona 4 Golden, and Retro Arch helped me return in gamin'.

The game that made me a gamer was super Mario bros (the original) on the NES, I didn’t grow up in the 80s so I played it on my moms NES classic edition (a gift from dad for their anniversary). I remember asking why Mario looked like legos. Good times

The first games that caught my attention when I was about 5 years old were Super Mario Bros and Super Mario World.
But the ones that made me know that video games would be my thing all my life were several NES games, Megaman V, The flinstones, Adventure Island III, Chip n Dale rescue rangers, Felix the Cat.
It was these games that made me really see the possibilities of something that until that moment was nothing more than a novelty for me.

When my sister bought Disgaea 4, it was the first game I got into on my own.
Before, I would only play games with my siblings, like Megaman, passing the controller when you die style.
Disgaea 4's grid-based turn-based combat hooked me, leaving me wanting more. So I actually started looking for more video games.

I would like to note that I tried Disgaea one on PSP first, but that one never hooked me in like Disgaea 4 did.

For me it was Final Fantasy IV on the SNES. This game holds a special place in my heart because it made me realize that games were more than jumping on turtles or whipping vampires; that videogames made with love can become art. Plus, the reason I understand English so well now is thanks to this game, which forced me to study it like a mad man. I'd call that a "DOUBLE VICTORY"!::peacemario

I’ve been gaming at a young age with my cousins Famicom and when my parents bought me a SEGA MegaDrive as a reward for doing well at school that’s when I became a gamer. The first game I truly fall in love with is the first Sonic the Hedgehog which came in as an in bundle game.
