For me i see the original experience is better than the emulation because when you play the game on the orginal console there's a little things that is important to give you a spical felling like the game disc, cover and manual instead of the really REALLY annoying bugs in the emulator . I know the emulator give you better resolution but the emulator's takes all the things around the retro games that's make it special and give you just the game . Tell me your reason if you see the original experience on console is better or you see the emulator is better and i really appreciate if you read all this ranting

Thanks and sorry if there was a Grammatical wrong

Sometimes things flow better when you play it on the original console. When i first played chrono trigger on emulator, i had trouble piecing things together. But when I played the ds release, it just felt like viewing it on a smaller screen made the maps make more sense. And also mapping controllers is confusing such as trying to play N64 sin and punishment on. Switch or chibi robo game cube with an xbox controller. I do actively support roms though due to accessibility (You can bring them with you, they can be on multiple consoles, you can access fan translated versions) and game archiving.

The obvious answer is emulation is an attempt to make hardware work virtually as software. If a hardware relies on law of physics for visuals as in effects it will be harder to emulate, the emulator developer will have to come up with a "pseudo-effect" to recreate a similar effect. For example this is why PS2 emulators couldn't make PS2 games looks like a native PS2 game. Especially MGS 3 looks so bad.

Another way to tell this is PS2 graphics tied to the analogue way the hardware works way more than it's tied to codes. But when a video game console like Switch 1 graphics is tied to codes and shaders emulators have an easy time replicating the graphics because they just have to write a translator for such stuff.

All I see it as is a bunch of elitist garbage wanting to show off the fact they've got more money than other people.

It is literally the same game when you play it on an emulator or a physical console.

I agree, I want these old games to be played by as many people as possible and I think emulation is a fantastic way of doing that. I do play some consoles on real hardware but only if I have a ODE or flash cart for those systems. As far as owning the real original physical media goes its just to hard and too expensive these days.

Honestly if you want to ball on a budget the 100% best option is a soft-modded Wii and a trash CRT Tube TV. The Wii is the last home system that can naturally output 240p and even better it can do it over component or even HDMI. This means this setup will allow you to emulate basically everything up to N64 on a CRT at the correct resolution and frame rate, its perfection and you can do it for under 100 bucks if you really want too. The wii even has the classic controller and you can plug in the SNES and NES mini controllers to the wiimote for 100% authenticity!!!

Yeah, my ex modded my family's old Wii so I put a bunch of NES and SNES games on it for my siblings to play. My parents are kinda dumb when it comes to technology, because they apparently sold it at some point.. I tried to explain how hard it is to find a moddable Wii and how you have to really know what you're doing in modding one, but I guess they forgot.
I'm still kinda mad about it.

The load times, the screen glitches, the CRT TV, even the frame drops... I just vibe with the original hardware because it was meant to be played that way, while on emulation you are using a device that can do 8000 other things at once while the colour grading is different, the resolution is upscaled and you have stuff like save states, fast forward and stuff.

Depends on the emulation quality. It's not the same with input lag in many cases and that's not even factoring in things like modern display lag and Bluetooth controller lag. I don't really care about boxes or anything. I just care about playing the game at it's most optimum performance.

Mister is the best modern balance I think.

well, all i really want is just the game. i collect books, so i understand what you mean but also most people dont really care, they just want to play the game(or in the case of books, to read it once).
i think emulating is less than wanting the resolution or filters or even smoother controller experiences. emulating is, i think, all about the convenience of not having to spend a single cent on games knowing that money wouldnt reach the original developers or just becuase you're an adult with better uses for that money. as well as the convenience of booting it up on the same device you do everything in.

sure, some people bother to set up CRTs and collect the hardware and some even buy the games! but MAN i cant be bothered to do that and it makes a lot of sense that most people wouldnt either.

finding the charm in using real hardware and sticking to it is good, you can be passionate about it and we all are like that with something in our lives. but most people really dont care about that and thats fine too.

Playing on something that doesn't reflect the experience of original equipment because of originality of that equipment. I am talking about Nintendo's consoles - DS, 3DS/2DS and Wii. The motion controls on the Wii in particular - even when you play a bit with the control configurations in Dolphin, many games that really use motion controls (like for example Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olimpic Games) are unplayable on handhelds or pads, because they can't be configured to be convenient to use and accurate.

Only one game I've ever played didn't feel the same on an emulator, and that's Ninja Gaiden.

Don't know why, because all the research I've done indicates that it normally is emulated 1 for 1 without any issues or input lag. But it feels like there is input lag; that's why I don't become a professional speedrunner of the game.

Like the other person said, playing on a DS is pretty much better than emulating it. But I personally think that's the only console where it matters because of both screens. Guess I was lucky that it was my first console lol, lord knows why emulating the DS line is so frustrating for some games :c

Man, I used a drawing tablet and it worked fine. It was a little awkward to hold a USB controller in one hand and balance the tablet in my lap, but other than that it was perfect. 👌

Depending on the game, touch/motion controls or events, it could be difficult on DS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U, or Switch.

Using a mouse for touch controls makes sense.
