I was around back then but we didn't have any arcades around where I lived so I never really got into arcade games. Mame's also very strange in its emulation setup compared to everything else and it's one I've always struggled to actually get working properly and it's only relatively recently I've actually started learning about arcade boards and why Mame is the way it is.It’s okay! I think it really is on video game historians and SEGA for not preserving the knowledge of SEGA’s arcade legacy. The main people keeping that stuff alive seems to be the old heads who were actually there to experience it when it was relevant, but they mostly keep to themselves and don’t make much of an attempt to pass that knowledge down to the younger generation. It’s a shame too, as SEGA’s weird decision making makes much more sense when you factor in their arcade efforts.
But, I want to contribute to the thread properly so I looked up the System 32. For the time it was released it honestly seems pretty ahead of its time. I have actually played Dark Edge which is apparently a System 32 game. It was kind of cool, not really a game I'd play, but what they did graphic wise was pretty impressive. It was a bit disorienting though. It doesn't look like there was actually a ton of games released on the hardware but what does exist looks like they used it to do some pretty cool sprite based graphics.
