What is your preferred console for new translations?

Imo the PCE has a lot of arcade style beat em ups/shoot em ups/platformers which have little to no Japanese text especially as for some reason a lot of games in Japan think it is cool to use English for the menus and on screen text (Very cool Japan, thanks very much). I have a lot of PCE games but only 2 I'm waiting on translations for despite a bunch of them being Japanese as they are 95% playable.

Saturn is my pick for favorite console to get translations because out of all 34 games I'm waiting on getting translated 12 of them are for the Saturn including my top 3: Wachenroeder, Soeldnerschild, and Cyber Doll. Saturn also has some of the highest quality foreign games that never got ported to English speaking countries because of Sega's rep at the time. It really is an untapped well of great games English speakers never got a shot to enjoy.

Yes there are many PCE games who are friendly for English speakers, but for some reason even if only the title is in Japanese I would prefer it to be translated before playing.

Me too, love the Saturn I have tons of game for the system that I would love to see translated.
 
PSP because it has a lot of great visual novels.
PS2 is a second runner because...come on, you know, it has one of the greatest libraries of all time.
PS1 is the third runner up.
After that comes all the nintendo, sega, neo geo, and whatever console translations.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much in xbox sphere for now, since only now we are very close to getting a stable xbox emulator like Xemu that seems very close to 1.0 stable release, so once that happens, I hope games like Magatama and N.U.D.E.@ Natural Ultimate Digital Experiment gets a translation.
 
Would there ever be demand for such a thing as game-specific translation "plugins" for emulators that bypass original hardware character count restrictions by detecting when a particular bit of in-game text is displayed and producing the person's translation elsewhere on the screen?

For me personally NO but that is because I only play on original hardware, but I am sure that would be appreciated for a great deal of other people.
 
I'm enthusiastic with any fan translation but NES, Famicom Disk System and PC Engine ones make me all giddy. That's because when those systems were brought into my country, all the machines and games were from Japan and at times, unintelligible. Half were playable because they were action games although I did get problems from time to time. (I had a big handicap on Castlevania 1 a.k.a Akumajo Dracula on FDS since I didn't know how to throw a sub weapon and had to beat everything with the Whip/Morning Star on my first playthroughs.)

During the NES/PC Engine-TG-16 era, I saw so many imported Japan games in game stores that looked so interesting but a fair number were RPG's or an action game that had a huge amount of Japanese text and I had to sadly pass them up. It was really annoying when it was a game that was based on a popular dubbed anime on TV but couldn't risk buying because of the heavy Japanese text and it made me unsure I'd ever win it. RPG's? Forget those. The only Japan RPG I managed to win was Zelda 2 but only because I had to buy 3 issues of Video Games and Computer Entertainment revealing all the puzzles and fetch quests.

So when a fan translation of those games shows up, I'm really excited if it's a game I remember seeing in a game store before but rejected. Right now, I discovered Blue Blink for the PC Engine. Decades ago, the bright cartoony case for this game stood in one of my favorite store for years and years unbought. It looked intriguing but the villager dialogue turned me off so I just wondered about it everytime I visited that game store.

Now, I can not only finally play it in English but also watch the whole anime series it was based on fan subbed.

Same for me but not so much import games in game stores but instead all those colorful anime style games in games magazines that were never released and nobody of your friends had. Its funny you mention Blue Blink since that is also one of the games that really stuck in my head from game magazines and the first PC-Engine game I bought when I started purchasing games online.
 
Definitely the PS1 and Saturn. There are still so many weird games on those consoles that haven't been localized into English yet. Since that era is the sweet spot for me aesthetically and game mechanics-wise, I jump on all of those - especially the RPGs. Gimme all of 'em!
