What is your favorite fighting game?

Darkstalkers 3

  1. Capcom vs SNK 2 — A little of everything made up to that point from both companies. It's too complicated for noobs, but that's their problem.
  2. Tie: Street Fighter III: Third Strike and The Mark of the Wolves — Excellently crafted, high frame rate, well balanced fighting. Perfection achieved twice.
  3. Tie: King of Fighters 98 & 2K2 — Closest things to having the whole cast together.
  4. Street Fighter Alpha 3 — Actually has the whole cast. Gets more in later updates.
  5. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 — Dumb fun with Marvel before Marvel got dumbed down. Unique characters Capcom wouldn't bother with in later entries.
  6. Vampire Chronicles for Match Service — Every version of every character in the series is playable. Only Darkstalkers game you need.
  7. Project Justice — Capcom's best 3D fighter prior to SF4. Few fighting games balance 2D & 3D styles of fighting so well.
  8. Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 — Most solid entry before MotW. Only downside is they got rid of the ring-outs from RBFF1, resulting in no topless easter eggs.
  9. Tie: Samurai Shodown II & VI — Hard to choose between great balance with classic characters or bigger cast with HOLY ☠☢☣☠ IS THAT ANDREW JACKSON FIGHTING A BIG-♡☆♀☆♡ SAMURAI MAID?!
  10. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure — Capcom tried something new with unique gameplay and characters the West needed to be familiarized with.

Under Night, Melty Blood, Mortal Kombat 9 and Tekken 6 are some of my favorites. I tend to value games that feel very "freeing" in the sense that character movement feels fast and fluid with a roster full of diverse functions that can be played in a number of ways. Under Night's grid system is the best attempt at purposefully pacing out matches that I have ever seen and I love that like many other anime fighters it just goes balls to the wall with its archetypes, letting characters do things that would be unthinkably overpowered in other franchises and yet are perfectly average in the context of UNI itself.

Melty Blood is also just attached to Tsukihime, a VN I adore. It maintains that fast and fluid movement that makes me love anime games whilst having more verticality than UNI. Raito also just composes some of the biggest bops in the entire genre, that man is a god damn genius.

I love Under Night In-Birth - got 3 of them - the II: Celes from early last year as well n 2 Melty Bloods on Steam alone - one is a PS2 port but the most recent Melty Blood is my fav from these devs like French Bread.... I have a few other fighters that are similarly focused on the anime vibe but I'd have to look n I will shortly n list em off - you probably have some for all I know hehe

this list hit home like a thunderbolt knockin out my air-conditioning n interwebzz

i'd say dissidia final fantasy/012 duidecium is my favorite fighting game. i had about 1,000 hours on both games combined. i was working on 100% them.
rumble roses is a pretty good game too.

1. Capcom vs SNK 2
2. The King of Fighters 2003
3. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (don't kill me)
4. Bloody Roar Extreme
5. Waku Waku 7
Extra: WWE Wrestlemania 21

Too many to choose from, but if were to pick 10 (not in any particular order):

1 - Street Fighter EX2 Plus (really underrated fighting game, though I can't figure out why was it ignored in its time)
2 - King of Fighters XI (could have been several KOF games here honestly, 97, 98UM, 2002UM, 99, 2000, 2003 but I stuck to XI)
3 - Mortal Kombat Trilogy (it's UMK3 but the new stuff they add it's kinda broken, but it's still loads of fun, it's a tie between this and MK9, even MK4 is alright honestly)
4 - Tekken Tag Tournament 1 (I REALLY stopped liking the series after this game, but it is what it is)
5 - Ultra Street Fighter IV (took me a good while to get REALLY into it, but now it's one of my favorites)
6 - Last Blade 2 (the only game I ever really bothered to play online)
7 - Street Fighter Alpha 2/3 (Hard to pick between the two, both are loads of fun)
8 - SVC Chaos (could have been CVS2 but I had more of a connection with this one, plus it's the one I played more with friends)
9 - DOA5 Last Round (is it a super deep game with loads of mechanics and super balanced? Hell no. But it's good for a laugh when playing casually so that's gotta count for something)
10 - Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (an absolute broken mess of a game but it's also fun)

- Persona Arena
- Persona Ultimax before the Shadow characters became busted
- Blazblue, probably either bbcp vanilla or bbcex, even though I love every version.
- Real Bout 1 and 2, can't choose
- Breaker's Revenge
- SF 2
- SF 5 since Champion Edition

- Virtua Fighter 2
- Soulcalibur 2

Honorable mention :

- Dbzf : casually, easy to pick up and do stupid broken shit. + It's Dragon Ball.
- Injustice 2 : for it's solo mode and gear. It was great to scratch that fighting itch without going online and having to spend too much time learning the game.

1. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
2. The King of Fighters XV (XIV)
3. Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (Ultra)
4. The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match (XI)
5. Fatal Fury / Garou: Mark of the Wolves
6. Capcom vs. SNK 2
7. Guilty Gear XX (ΛC+R)
8. Project Justice (Rival Schools)
9. Vampire Savior
10. Street Fighter Zero 3 (SFZ2)

Honorable Mention: Cyberbots, Tech Romancer, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, Psychic Force 2012, Groove on Fight, Samurai Shodown VI (V), The Last Blade 2, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, Rage of the Dragons, Vs. series.

No i will not be taking feedback on this matter
I am wondering why some people insist on Smash bros not being a fighting game.

Okay, you don't have motion input (then Mortal Kombat isn't a fighting game either) nor automatic turn (then Fatman isn't one either).

But as long as you have a character with hits, combos, grabbing and dodging then it's one to my eyes.

It should be said to be a platform fighting game with party game elements.
