For Example: I used to play a game a lot on my bootleg Family Game console, a game about a plane that transformed into a robot.

Later I found out it was Super Dimension Fortress Macross. It was an '80s series that released a game for the Famicom in Japan called Choujikuu Yousai Macross.

¿¿ So, what's the video game you discovered later, as an adult, that was based on an anime or cartoon series ??

Not a cartoon or anime, but I recently learned that Stanley - The Search For Dr. Livingstone is actually based on a book. And there was a cartoon of that too apparently!

I also found out Dr.Chaos has a lot of inspiration from the horror-comedy movie "House". Awesome!

Phantom Fighter was based on a movie called Mr. Vampire, and Ghoul School might also be partially based on a movie.

Now i know this is technically cheating because the anime is actually based on the game but, back when I was a child i had these monster rancher 4 playing cards (i have no idea how i acquired them) , despite the fact i had no idea what the hell monster rancher even was.

Because of the way the cards looked me and my friends basically played a made up trading card/battle version of the game with all sorts of wacky rules. This was around 2nd and 3rd grade. Imagine my surprise when i looked up what monster rancher 4 was years later (im talking i was almost in highschool and remembered these cards) and found out there was actually an entire game the cards from my childhood are based on.

I genuinely dont know why it took me so long to look it up or make the connection they were from a game but it never clicked until MUCH later

Sweet Home (Famicom) is based on a movie.

Also Decap Attack's original Japanese version (aka Magical Hat no Buttobi Turbo! Daibōken) is actually from an anime!

I really think I've missed out on this experience becasue my dad was so tapped into the world of comics and media. I ended up being into pokemon before it became a trend because my dad read about it in Wizard magazine and then my tiny child brain was very surprised and pleased when I got to see it everywhere a few months later.

You'll laugh but for a while I thought that Pokémon was an anime first then a video game series as if it was a cross-media franchise. Pokémon Yellow didn't help either.

This was my introduction to Golgo 13. Only I wouldn't know it until much later

I had the exact same experience with Digimon! which was a hell of a culture shock when I discoveered Digimon World had none of the anime in it at all, and then AGAIN when I discovered it was a tamagotchi spin-off years later!

same same! I loved that anime and only discovered the game years later when I was searching the internet to rewatch it.
