Okay, I'm going to get some flack on this, Zelda II should not be hated. Yes the gameplay is very different than the traditional overhead Zelda games, and being the first and only 2D sidescroller Zelda game by Nintendo. But, that's because 75% of NES games are 2D sidescrollers which the NES is good with for the most part. Also, without Zelda II, we wouldn't get other sidecrolling adventure games such as the Monster World games and the Shantae series.

The Zelda game I hate is Triforce Heroes. While it has some elements from Four Swords, the plot was bland and you can easily skip dungeons and even the final boss which rather felt cheating.

I would love another 2D, side scrolling Zelda game. It's a shame Zelda II has such a bad rep. Infernax mixed Castlevania II and Zelda II together and was a lot of fun. I would absolutely LOVE a side scrolling Zelda game with a decent combat system for dueling. My favorite thing about Zelda II was dueling with knights or killing monsters with the downward strike.

when there was that big giga leak a while back, there were sprites of Link from Zelda II but for SNES. I wonder if Nintendo was playing around with the idea of giving Zelda II a SNES version like BS Zelda and Super Mario All-Stars.

Way, WAY back in the day before the majority of the posters here were born the trendy game to hate was Windwaker because of its cartoon artstyle which is funny because that made it age like a fine wine and better than games that tried to be realistic.
Oh yeah it definitely was at it's time

Not to get too off topic, but has anybody else noticed that there were a handful of Adventure Time games that were also clones of specific Zelda games?
I've played at least three:

Granted, they have their differences here and there. I just thought it was interesting that a show obviously inspired by Zelda would get a handful of video game adaptations inspired by specific Zelda games as well.

Most underrated? Zelda II the adventure of Link, for sure!
Most hated? Probably the CD-i games, but those dont really exist.

the remasters fix a ton of issues. :) plus you don't need to figure out Phillips CD-i emulation. I tried downloading an emulator once for the original games but it told me i needed to get a paid subscription for it. Never got the chance to try the games out until the remasters were posted here.
