I have been trying to post a gif for the last like 30m and It keep saying file size to big
its 2.6 mb large?
its 2.6 mb large?
Yeah, everything's on the same server here -- letting people run wild with (generally) one-time use GIFs would be a nightmare scenario. The limit could be higher but it could be a problem easily if it were.
Same more or less, just a general size limitation. It’s 2mb for videos but I never hit the limit for images so I wouldn’t know.
Now that this is mentioned, I actually do vaguely remember something like this, I tried uploading multiple images but it only gave me a size error for one of them.Same more or less, just a general size limitation.
I also think it is a total limit in post if you got multiple images but I am just going by vibe memory rather than hard hit confirm with that.
Huh, I never thought if there was a total size limit between all the attachments. I know there is a 15 attachment limit (learned that hard way for a review). I got curious and checked my image folder for that post, and they all added up to 1mb together (well under the limit for even one image), so that doesn't help answer that question >_< I guess that means the theoretical limit for a post is 30mb?Same more or less, just a general size limitation.

Cool! It's all gimp and ffmpeg mostly for me. gifs can take extra effort: I will also use imagemagick and gifsicle to optimize and do other stuff.I just use irfanview, knowledge about JPG's, PNG's WEBP's even JPG-XL in general, maybe a little XL converter and even handbrake to make the images and videos I wanna post. The limit could be higher but it could be a problem easily if it were. GIF's are very unoptimized you could likely convert them to commonly supported video format of some kind and post it as a sub 2mb GIF. Like really, my friend hates it when "GIF sites" have them as videos but when GIFs ballooned and video codecs like H.264 and beyond that VP8, VP9 (A.K.A. Webm) and AV1 have come out, you usually save a significant slice of space by encoding the GIF to video without sound.
But that still might get you there.
