What if SEGA still made consoles?

Okay, let me push that further:
Sega Japan or Sega America?

Sega U.S. were the cats that wanted the PowerPC/Voodoo 3 console.
Would have admittedly ruled. ?

Always thought they should have spun off into another company with that design (Not MS)

What I would not give for early 2000s SEGA to come back.

I just wish they made more games, dunno if there's much demand for a new NiGHTS or a Jet Set Radio game or whatever but i'd love to see modern takes on the older franchises.

I hope you're saying modern in the good way (aka improving on what worked) and not in the "we will change things so it would please the modern audience while ignoring completely the older fans and what made the originals good to begin with" kind of modernisation.

Yeah it is important to retain the charm of the original games but they should feel fresh, SEGA tends to some times pander to older fans (cough cough green hill zone) so if they ever make newer installments for the older games i want to see more than just a remaster or remake or whatever. I think that now that Sonic has become more of a multimedia franchise with the comics and the movies they would have a perfect opportunity to draw new fans for their other titles.

What's funny is that when Mario is reusing the 1-1 theme or Kirby with Green Greens it's often appreciated whereas Green Hills in Sonic made fans annoyed, how come?

I still appreciate that the first level in Streets of Rage 4 is street themed like the first two (the third game was a bit boring with the warehouse and port so the second level felt more like a proper first one).

I feel that the multimedia have become better than the games themselves...

Initially the green hill reuse was'n that bad, seeing it as an unlockable completion reward in adventure 2 or as a stage in a spinoff was nice. It was also cool to see in smash bros brawl.

It became a problem for me after generations, which is imo the last time sonic team should have reused old stages in the scale they did because it was a celebration of the whole series. It started getting grating when the main series game right after generations (forces) used green hill and chemical plant again, both of which also made an appearance in sonic mania right before they did in forces. Hell both of those stages even sneaked their way into sonic frontiers.

i can excuse the reuse of green greens and 1-1 with 2D mario games and kirby games because not only do the both tend to follow a pattern with their level themes (grassland, desert, ocean, forest etc.) those games also tend to be really good. Where as the level themes in sonic games can get really out there so i feel really bummed out when in place of something new and interesting they have another green hill, the quality of the sonic games also can radically shift between titles so i think it's important to actually make your game feel interesting if there's a chance that it isn't going to be that good.

I think Generations and Mania's Green Hills were genuinely good (one with the boost level and the other with a second act that felt truly unique with the underground section and gorgeous waterfalls).

While it may not be as good as the first game I genuinely believe that Advance 3 having Sunset Hills was a magnificent nod (and no, Advance 1's Neo Green Hills is barely Green Hills but more like Emerald Coast + City Escape mixed into a beach/forest level with a bridge reminiscent of Radical Highway in the end).

I wish Sega gave us back a beach-themed first level like Neo Green Hills or Seaside Hill instead of Splash Hills and the other GHZ clones

Even though Sega started to make nostalgic throwbacks since at least Pocket Adventure's Neo South Island (well, technically it was Dimps but you get it).

PS: Sonic Chaos had Mecha Green Hills Zone which looks like a what if GHZ got a Bad Future like CD which is a nice mix (instead of Forces' not Sand Hills).

But you're right, Kirby added some mix to the first level

Like Patched Plain showing the giant tree from Return to Dreamland.

They would still only have one joystick on their controllers and people would be mad about FPS games having to use some weird gyro gimmick that only sega has perfected. Also hall effects triggers are standard.

Oh and the memory card (it's just a gameboy now, it needs cards to run the games in your memory card) would have a radio antenna in it, because why not.

They would also be Releasing a Nomad Mini.... Which would be the size of a Gamegear.
Also, SEGA, If still Releasing game Console's today, would be Releasing Life-size Sonic Plushies now..
They Know the Weird side of the fanbase....

then, a Year later. with the Profit from Sales of Said Plushies. Would buy Nintendo.. Ara Ara

Say the Dreamcast did really well and SEGA decided to make a successor for the 7th gen and subsequently the 8th and 9th gens. What do you think they would've called them, what would they look like, and what kind of features would they have to set them apart from their competition?
We would've probably got an actually good rendition of Sega Rally 3 (It's decent but not good, unlike Daytona 2001) and Daytona 3 (the actual Daytona 3 we got was trash, literally just 6 (well, 3 actually since the "new" tracks barely change anything from their original counterparts) tracks).

Also, stuff like Scud Race 2, maybe Sega Race TV 2 as well as Outrun 2 on the Dreamcast/Sega 7th gen console and Virtua Racing 2 with polished graphics? Idk but from the perspective of racing games alone it'd be so peak due to how many gems Sega have in their catalogue.

Also, aside from racing games, Half Life. Game's already complete (there's even a ROM on the Repo) and was about to be sold if not for the terrible DC sales. DC being a success would also probably heal the public's trust on Sega, including the third party devs. I wonder how Mercury or Mercury Meltdown would work on the DC, it's a really hard (but really good) puzzle game whose aesthetics really fit the DC.

Yeah maybe we won't get Sonic x Mario collabs anytime soon in that timeline but honestly it's not that bad of a sacrifice.
