What games on other platforms, do you think could have easily been ported to Dreamcast

Skill over Return on investment any day. The whole project to me reminds me of the days of the Amiga and the days of the 68000. People just showing what they can do with their code, rather then reliance on another companies short cut suit that in itself does things in such away that using "makes development" easier (lazier), so that companies can get ROI Think Epic tools, crystal tools and the like. I respect any one who can code, but the most respect goes to those who really get to know systems so well, that they can squeeze every bit of performance out of it!

I get why this software like epic tools and the like is needed, but look at what happened with consoles like the PS3, a lot of its titles did not even use the hardware properly with only Koji pro and the like really utilizing the consoles hardware with shear skill.

680000 coders are still making demos for it, and MVG did a video on this recently. This hardware was used cross generation in systems from the 80s right up till late 90s, which is crazy!

Totally agree. One counterpoint though: back in the day if you were an expert in 68k programming you could use that in a lot of different applications, not just video games. Not so much if you're an expert on the PS3's Cell architecture. So there was more incentive to be an expert.

On topic: Sonic Heroes and Shinobi (PS2). Always felt that would've been a DC exclusive had the DC not died.

I genuinely believe that Ys VI The Ark of Napishtim could've been on the Dreamcast (the original PC version with the 2D sprites instead of the 3D models on the PS2) albeit a bit more compressed (as well as being on the GameCube).

Sure, it was made in 2003 but it was top down and was also ported to the PSP.

Shinobi (PS2).
It was planned on the DC like Super Monkey Ball.

Sonic Heroes would've been trickier I think.

Also Nights Into Dreams (with the PS2 models) could've also have worked.

Ah, that makes sense then, cool.
Nights would've totally been possible as well.

Booom, i would love to have seen this also, deep cut since Sega de-listed knights in to dreams from steam, so now the PS2 and other versions are the only ways to play. There are other ways to play, but the ps2 version has always had a strange softness to the Graphics, which when comparing games from DC to PS2. Refer to RE CV for details. Just looks cleaner on DC, which if Knight in to dreams was on DC, would look awesome!

Ref on DC vs PS2

PS2 is more powerful, sure, but things just pop in comparison on the DC. Is it just me?

Makes me wonder if Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast basically prevented any Nights sequel or even remaster...

I really dislike that choice... You can play the XBLA version on modern Xbox?

I think that the PSN/XBLA games like SADX and SA2B could've been on the Switch as well.

Unsure about xbla, but i didn't purchase it when it was available then, so if not part of your library when it was available, then i cannot get my hands on it for xbox one and the like. Do you know if it is still listed?

FantaVision would probably be one of the easiest ps2 games to port, as it's essentially Missile Command with particle emitters. :loldog

I always thought Super Dragonball Z had major Dreamcast vibes.

Dolphin blue was in theory harder to port and fans made it possible with zero cuts, so maybe Metal Slug 6 could be done (They even are made in Atomiswave)

Again, i would still take it, as it just means more games for DC ::eggmanlaugh

I do not think it was "ported", from what i remember, the Atomiswave hardware is close to the Naomi? And that what allowed for the conversion and for it to run natively on hardware? Or am i remembering this wrong?

Some late PS1 games and early PS2 games i think
Like Smugglers Run ,Midnight Club, and also the first two Smackdown Games (Yuke's already developed Toukon Retsuden 4 which is basically the Japanese sibling of those game).

Dunno about "easily" but I've been thinking about this recently.

The though is that some older Windows games would be right at home on the thing.
The original P.O.D.
Amercan Mcgee's Alice
Jedi Knight
(Really, anything that used the Quake II and III engines)
Shogo
Later-mid Need for Speed games (Pre-Hot Pursuit II)
Edit: MDK (the first one)
I wonder if that's even doable?...
I know there's a source port of the Quake engines that kicks ass on the DC so maybe even just those?

Honestly I don't think any of those would have a problem running on DC if someone/some team tried.

Windows games from '95 - '01 as the DC ran on C.E.
Not sure how much would run on C.E as the memory space is super restrictive. But i feel you on the C.E as that is what DC is supposed to run(y)

I didn't know about the RAM.

But theoretically if a game was on PC around the same time it could get on the DC (like Quake 3).

On the other hand would have Model 3 games been ported to the DC?

There's this obscure Japan exclusive PS2 port of a Beat em up called Dynamite Deka (In America the arcade is known as Die Hard Arcade despite having nothing in common aside of basic plot) that could fit in the Dreamcast, they could even export it to give the Dreamcast some Killer-appish game
