What games do you think are ridiculously overpriced?

I always factor how LONG a game will last into the price
would i pay 80$ (US) for persona 5? absolutely, i spent a combined time of like 200 hours on P5 (across vanilla, royal version)
would i spend 80$ for mario RPG (this takes like 12 hours to 100% on SNES, faster on switch)
hell no LOL, i'm sorry i love mario RPG but more than 30$ for that is crazy.

i got mad when i spent 50$ on pokemon X and beat the elite four in 8 hours, and the rest of the game (all side battles/quests, not 100% pokedex) in 4 more hours
i returned the game for a FULL REFUND, since it was a week after i bought it LOL
spent that 50$ on bravely default (3ds) which i spent over 100 hours on

nintendo is crazy for making mario kart world 80$, for 16 tracks, some freeroam and worse customization. and you can't go underwater lol.
mario kart 8 deluxe (Switch+all the dlc packs) has 128 TRACKS, and wing/wheel/vehicle choices a lot of them, that's 90$ in total so for 10$ more you get 8x more tracks and much more options.
yeah i know you can flip and grind and shit, but not really that important lol

i just can't afford the switch console and games, i mean the first switch i never bought cause it made no sense money wise, let alone the switch 2...
i got a PS3 and a ton of games (on sales, i almost never bought anything full price outside persona 5 or disgaea games)
i got a ps4 , same thing lots of sales
i got a ps5 and 99% of my gaming is PS4 games lol (i wouldn't recommend a PS5)

being 100% honest, PC gaming is the most gaming for your money (factoring in emulation and... etc)
steam CONSTANTLY has sales of all the games i'd play, if not steam, epic games, amazon, whatever else, humble bundle is an amazing site for bulk game buys.

Square Tax and Nintendo Tax and Pokemon Tax have been a thing forever, though.

Secondary market was so good before ebay became a thing, those were the good old days. Everything after, all wild unless you luck out.

Not so much ebay, but GameStop, YouTubers (specifically MetalJesusRocks) and 2020 in general.
1. 2020 because everyone was suddenly stuck at home (ask anime fans about their issues due to this and all the anime tourists who showed up saying, "Oh I hated anime in school but I see it's really cool but it should be more like my personal insane beliefs and live action and less problematic...").
2. Folks like MJR for highlighting specific games which then invariably explode in price. I personally suspect that many of these YouTubers buy titles in bulk, hype them up, wait for the price inflation, then sell at a massive profit.
3. GameStop for stopping the sale of older titles in-store after they pushed-out nearly everyone else in the market. Everything seventh gen. (PS3, 360, Wii, etc.) on up are generally reasonably priced on consoles still and, shock, those have been the games GameStop really haven't stopped selling in-store.

Pokemon Generations 3, 4 & 5 will each run you about a couple hundred dollars just for the cartridges.

Little Samson is about $400 loose, but CIB... That's over $1K.

Magical Chase on PC Engine (but then again, every game on that system is ridiculously overpriced).

A lot of your misgivings seem to be in the secondhand gaming market, but what if I told you there was a remaster that came out recently that has no right to cost $11 USD?
Armored Core!

Now, I know what you're thinking, "Hippo, I quite liked Armored Core 3 and I'm sure the other original Armored Core games are also quite fun." EXTREMELY LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER
These aren't the original Armored Core games up to three, these are ports of the Nokia Armored Core games!

Above are screenshots of one two and three, respectively.
While each game looks pretty feature complete, even coming with a customization mode, and I totally think you could make an argument for game preservation here for what could've become lost media- I really don't think each game is individually worth that price tag! If they had put all of them together in a package with a bunch of extra goodies I'd say they could get away with maybe $15-$20, but paying $11 for a Nokia game in 2026?
Now, to be fair, I don't know what kinda effort went into this project and it's possible they actually rebuilt the games from the ground up using only the assets from the previous releases, but I still think it's a crazy amount to pay for a few tiny versions of Armored Core games when you could nab some more recent indi Armored Core inspired games for the same price.

I really don't understand people's infatuation with this game. Even when the game came out, it wasn't worth $50. Let alone being three or four times that amount now. Honestly, I think people are more in love with the idea than the actual game itself. There were interesting ideas, but they were all just either executed badly or done very mediocrely. There are so many games that you can play now that offer much better experience for what it was trying to do. Especially on the indie scene.

Personally, I enjoy Rule of Rose. It's deffo too expensive, but not because the game is bad. It's got good atmosphere and a unique setting (outside of the opening). That first proper boss is a ball-buster tho.


Personally, I think that Silent Hill 1 is overpriced AF atm.
It's going for like £130+ in the UK right now, and it's a great game, but seriously not worth that price for what it is.

I agree. Like I mentioned and several others have before, these games that actually sold well or made more than a profit are being charged as if there's some rare game. I think in addition to the fact this game is getting a remake, is causing people to upcharge on the price now.

yeah, luckily I tend to notice a downward trend once the game actually drops, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that.

Eventually, I might just buy a Disc-only copy (if they become cheap enough) and repro the case myself tbh. I Just want a copy to play, I don't care if it's completely valueless.

Nearly every 1st party Nintendo game I got used on Switch. The only exception was Age of Calamity.

I personally don't believe in it's current asking price tag after playing it, at least as an experience, no way.
As bragging rights as a collector sure? I wouldn't care though or source out my own physical copy.

Usually i'm very open to weird horror games, heck i played and finished Carrier, The Ring & even Countdown Vampires, but I just cannot get into this one.

I got a whole collection of Switch games and none of them are from Nintendo. I can't justify spending $40 to $60 on a game I don't know if i'll like, when there's cheaper better options out there.

Gekido, a mediocre PS1 brawler, is being charged between $70-$200 for most boxed copies! You can't make this shit up, if you tried!

Most copies of fighting force are between $15.99 and $50.00. Still not worth it at the $30-$50. Even then that's another one. You're better off either getting the japanese version or playing the japanese version on emulation. Which is called Metal Fist.
