I think it's a very interesting question and I really wanna hear peoples stories.

What's something from the PS2 era that you found out about somewhat recently that you really dig, but wish that someone told you about it during the PS2 era, because you probably would have liked it more if someone had let you know about it during the PS2 era?

It doesn't have to be something on the PS2, just something that came out during the systems lifetime.

For example, I didn't know anything about Ring Of Red, and I think it's one of the best PS2 RPGs.

It's a PS2 turn based rpg historical fantasy game that asks what if world war 2 went into the 60's, and Japan was divided into two countries, and they had mechs! Oh, and women participated in the fighting!

In this games universe, the atom bomb exists, and it hit Hiroshima, but japan didn't surrender. Also, aircraft is banned in this war since you can't launch an atom bomb without aircraft. Atom bombs weren't removed from the world, but the world powers agreed to not use aircraft, and the first to use aircraft will have all the other world powers set against them.

I also was afraid that the game was gonna pull a "women in refridgerators" trope, but nope, the one woman in your party wasn't killed early on.

I just really, really wish that a fan of the game had tried to sell me on the game during the era.

I also wish that someone would have told me what Red Faction is about during the PS2 era. Sure people talked about the how destructable the environments are, but no one told me that it's a game where you're a miner that's a slave in all but name, and you revolt and free your other miners. To me this was the era where action games started having a much bigger focus on telling great stories, and yet no one ever recommended it to me despite me constantly making topics on other forums asking for Action games that aren't rpgs that tell really good stories.

On a related note, I made a topic asking for recent action games and action rpgs that are story rich, and no one's mentioned anything that isn't an rpg. This feels like a huge, sitewide problem, and I feel like I'm the only person on all of the forums that wants action games that aren't also rpgs that have a focus on compelling characters.

Everything Or Nothing also seems fun, sure wish that someone told me about it, and I'm surprised that no one's recommended it to me until today.

Well I recently learned about a racing game called MotorStorm - Arctic Edge on PS2 and I wish someone had told me about this game back then.

Video game industry died in 2016 so can we recommend modern but not so recent games like Bioshock series (FPS), Alan Wake 1 (horror action) and Tokyo Xanadu (Japanese Action RPG)? What about Dishonored 1 (stealth FPS)? Is a beat 'em up game like The friends of Ringo Ishikawa is ok? I would say Mafia 1 but at this point all good story rich action games are so popular. And then action games don't tend to have story rich aspects except newer Sony games because they are more like interactive cinema programs that is barely a game lol. If you want new Sony shit games from non-Sony companies IDK play Kane & Lynch series but despite how story focused the series is don't blame me if it's not "story-rich" enough for you lol but at least I can say especially 2nd game is a movie that is fully a video game alright.

That the PS2 was also a DVD/CD Player. could’ve saved my family hundreds of dollars.

lol there where a lot of people I knew that just used it as a DVD player and never played any games on it.

God I wish I could edit this part out. Why can't I edit my post?

I made this topic on another website months ago and I thought I cut out all of the parts like this when I posted it here. I have no idea what the situation is with this community with story rich games that have a focus on compelling characters that aren't rpgs, but considering that this is the one forum I've come across where people besides myself seem to actually be able to name hidden gems, I doubt it's a problem.

You mean the PS3 era games? I wouldn't consider games from the 2000s recent.

Sure was fun using my controller as a remote control to play stuff like the LOTR Trilogy and Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 1-3

"Bro trust me, Tekken 5 is very good despite Tekken 4 not hitting that well for you! It might even have your new favorite character in it!"

Nice! Did you not know about them during the PS2 era?
Tekken 4 didn't really hit me all that hard. It wasn't a bad game, but I was underwhelmed by it. And online purchasing were not really that much of a thing here until later in 2010s so if you didn't see a game in a shop, you were kinda screwed.

God Hand I think I saw in a bargain bin but the cover didn't evoke any desire to buy at the time.

Onimusha series. Played them too late to even understand their greatness even though I saw my cousins finished it.

Same with Ar Tonelico, didn't know it was THAT good until I played it myself years later. Now the series has become my favorite and I desperately hope that 3/Qoga and Ar+Ciel nosurge will come to PC in English someday.

Vampire: The Masquerade. The negative reaction to the Bloodlines sequel has brought the first one to my attention, and it sounds pretty cool.
