What did people who got into Zelda at BTOW think the sequel would look like?

Fuck, it's nice to finally meet someone else who doesn't think WW was good
The beginning of Wind Waker was painful. I wouldn't say it's a bad game but it is way over-hyped. The sea travel is straight diabolical: a plain blue sky against a plain blue ocean because the cel-shaded style is overly cartoony and almost featureless. I felt like Tom Hank's character in Castaway after he lost his mind and started talking to a volley ball.

The thing is, if it had half the amount of control with VR-type gloves, where Link's hands moved exactly how yours did, you could wield the Master Sword in real time onscreen. Fuck yes, I'd love that
I honestly believe that was the intention but the technology just wasn't there yet.

It was cool skyriming around Hyrule, but I would actually like a proper old-school Zelda game in 3D.
A full remake of Zelda 1, with no QoL improvements.
I would dig that! I enjoyed the remake of Link's Awakening; they did a great job converting the Wind Fish to 3D, among other things.

Oh gods, I know right?
I remember the original Zelda game announced at E3 that was basically the placeholder for Wind Waker. What later, I think, turned into Skyward Sword.

That was the game myself and every other Zelda fan wanted at that point in time

I don't really think it's here now close, but not quite commercially viable.

Give VR tech another five maybe ten years at least, and we might see a fully VR or interactive VR re-release of Skyward without a headset.

When that Company which shall not be named releases it as a title on their Switch 5 or whatever

Absolutely they did, and i would Dig it to. Why i said it
