Personally I love the device and its the main reason I bought the thing because it can play up to ps3 games about to be ps4 if shadps4 can keep up with the updates. Also it can play indie games to your AAA games and this thing keeps blowing my mind everytime.

My only complaint is that using desktop mode is a pain in the ass, and you need to be in it to install the standalone emulators. The touch controls didn't seem to behave consistently when trying to navigate, and sometimes it wouldn't recognize the mouse I connected to it through a hub.

I heard that it's really great, but yeah it can be a hassle sometimes

Thankfully, there's a bunch of tutorials that can teach you how to set up things. You have to try everything though because it might have some issues that can occur during emulation

It's a great emulation device but I think it can be a bit of an overkill for weaker/older systems (Nes, Snes , genesis, game boy), I rather use something like a miyoo mini instead for those systems.

very much prefer my odin 2 for emulation
desktop mode gets annoying quick

also I dont really want to add emulators to my steam library and accidentally show my friends im playing roms.

Been pretty good for me. I'm shocked what the system can run. Tempted to start loading some Vita stuff up on the system pretty soon. Surprised how decent desktop mode is on the touch pad. I'm already pretty happy with the Deck's performance with PC titles so the fact that emulation is so smooth on the thing is such a big bonus.

I love it. I rarely have any problems with it and being able to play PS3 games on it is a blast. My ONLY issue is that I wish the deck was smaller. Most of my gaming is done handheld and I just wish I had that kind of power pocket sized.

I can't speak for the SD but I bought the ASUS Rog Ally Z1 Extreme, I installed Bazzite OS (the same as the SteamDeck) and I have the PCSX2, Dolphin, PPSSPP, GBA and PS1 emulators with a shit ton of games, they run almost 99% flawlessly.

I simply love the fact that I can run these using a handheld console, I am running out of space though...

Tell me about it because desktop mode you had to use a keyboard and a mouse to actually navigate it. I use emudeck when I install emulators.

Running out of the space is the worst part about it why because you cannot get enough space.

The vita stuff was another surprise once I figured out how to install the games I was blown away it can play tales of Innocence, and Muramasa Rebirth on it.

Steam rom manager is your friend I can select what to show and what not to show.

This is true. I never have hand or wrist strain issue but the steam deck was the first system to ever give me hand cramps/wrist strain.

I used to have a retroid pocket 2+ and it was amazing and before that a raspberry pi zero 2 W with a gameboy case.

Way too big. Odin Pro 2/Mini/The upcoming one, or the RP5 are better for their size, and solid power to play up to Switch. But of course, if you're really into PC games, PS3 emulation, etc, the Deck will give you that. But that size is a deal breaker for me.

I'm planning on getting a Steam Deck next year, prob will get the OLED one since by that time it might go down a little in price. Always loved portable gaming so getting a hand computer to run most games I'm interested is gonna be great!

Emulaters on the Steam Deck runs well so no issue on that front. I am not a fan of the big picture mode though where you can see the banner, icon, etcs, cause I'm OCD, most games do not have the correct images especially SNES games.

Overall I prefer emulating on Windows handheld like my ROG Ally X.

I love mine. I'm bonkers about mine, in fact. I got it a year and a half ago and haven't been able to put it down. My main issue with a lot of the handhelds on the market is the fact they're rather small. My hands are pretty big so I really like having a chunky old thing in my hands.

I agree that for older systems it is overkill, but being able to play anything from DOOM 64 to Chrono Trigger to Spider Fighter while on my college campus in another city or on the hour and a half commute to and from college is a convenience I could never put a price tag on.

Emulation on it is a breeze. EmuDeck does most of everything for you in terms of setup (naturally there's stuff you have to do too). I'm also not too fond of EmulationStation DE. I find it rather cumbersome especially if I have an entire ROM pack of NES games.

Only issue I have is the D-Pad. It's made of this glossy plastic that's liable to get slippery if there's even the slightest bit of moisture on your hands. That's really it for me.

The SteamDeck has a slot for micro SD cards so you can expand your space with one. You can probably get a 128 GB one for reasonable prices these days. Have you put one into your system yet?

Steam deck is a little wonky when docked, impossible to get my Saturn controller working properly in the Deck's "game mode" (it runs like a charm on desktop, very frustrating stuff). That said, every emulator I've thrown at it has run like a charm.
