What are your gaming translation white whales? Games you want to see translated but feel it'll never happen?

Surging Aura for the Mega Drive, and the Sega CD Shadowrun game.

After playing project X zone, i wanted to see where does neneko come from. There is an anime but it sucks and i suspect that it doesn't even scratch the surface of Yumeria as a whole. So yeah, this will never get a translation. Never ever.

For PC-88/98 games, it’s usually enough to translate just the interface to make them playable for people who actually want to play. That’s because there is the Textractor hook and AI translators (ChatGPT, DeepSeek, you name it). With those, you can probably enjoy the story even better than with an in-game translation, since there’s no byte limit on the translated text. When translators have to fit within strict byte limits, they often end up crippling the original meaning of the Japanese lines.

Same can be said about windows (non-DOS) games.

I've been hopeful for a re-translation of Pokemon Gold and Silver. This is a series that alters names and terminology for just about *everything*. From towns, items, people, the critters and creatures...

BUSIN 0: Wizardry Alternative NEO

However... even more than that, I think more retranslation projects would be nice. Obvious choice is the first two Lunar games, but there are others that slip my mind. Final Fantasy VIII desperately needs one. Xenogears has that Perfect Works project in the works.

For me it was Ace Combat 3 and Princess Crown; while those had html-based translations for ages, for the longest time there really didn't seem to be any actual patches for the games.

Breath of Fire 6 is another one I know for a fact I will never seer translated, since it's a mobile game from before the gacha boom that didn't do very well and everyone hates. Likewise, it would be nice to get a better retranslation for breath of fire 2 - the ryusui one takes way too many liberties with the script for my liking. At times it felt more like some kind of fandub script than an actual translation.

Didn't Ace Combat 3 recently have a translation done for it? I can remember it getting uploaded to the repo, I believe, last year or the beginning of the year

Yeah, but games did. Hence "for the longest time".
So it's no longer a whale if it's been translated. The white whales are the ones we are waiting for most :)

Yes, and that post mentioned Breath of Fire 6 in the next paragraph as their current white whale. This exchange is silly.

- Shiren the Wanderer GB: Monster of Moonlight Village
- Shiren the Wanderer GB2: Magic Castle of the Desert

Well I'll cast a vote for Zill O'll. PS, PS2 or PSP doesn't really matter. You see I wanted to play it for the longest time and the other day I finally tried the "translation" for Zill O'll Infinite but unfortunately it is very, very bad, had to drop it ~1 hour in.
Might also add:
Segagaga because why not;
Blue Seed: Kushinada Hirokuden for the Saturn as well;
Kengo 3, Rahxephon: Soukyuu Gensoukyoku and Blood+ One Night Kiss for the PS2.

Langrisser 3 & 5. The remaining Goemon titles.
I second this, forgot about the langrisser games for some reason, don't care if 3 is the later release or not.
Back with another obscure one i guess, alshark, on any system.

Don't know why but this game has always shown up whenever i went searching for classic games, though i'd love to play it.

I read that a translation was in the works for this in 2020, but I haven't seen any news lately.

There are a few in the NES/FDS section for sure. But of all the games I want to see fan-translated more than any but fear will never happen is the infamous mindf*** on the FDS that is "Time Twist: Reikishi no Katasumi de..." (sp?)

The game's text is compressed AF and with the game split by two disks, it'll take some insurmountable hacking work to pull together... something that is beyond my current skill level, sadly. :(

Gonna add metal max 4 to the list as well, but that's probably going to be translated eventually.

Thought this would happen by now actually, but I'd like to play the Japanese version of Battletoads for NES in English (with it's toned down difficulty and bug fix). Would be cool if the pause screen beat from the US version could be restored while we're at it... Or if the balance and level design changes could be added to the US version that would be cool.
