What are your favorite Namco arcade games?

My all time personal favorite has to be Mappy (1983)! It controls really fluidly, the gameplay is also extremely entertaining and addicting. The soundtrack is incredibly good! It's pretty jaunty, catchy, and superbly well composed by Nobuyuki Ohnogi. If you happen to not be familiar with it, it’s about a mouse police officer raiding a house full of cats, you use doors and trampolines to evade or strike back at the cats. The main goal is to collect stolen goods and art. Really unique and novel concept! The sprite art (and box art) by Hiroshi Ono are so cute and adorable.

(I always try to mention the names of the people behind these games, they don’t get enough credit in my opinion.)

I could play it for hours and never be tired of it! Such a blast! It’s one of the most perfect and fun Arcade games I’ve ever played!

If you have any favorite Namco games, feel free to share or even rank them!

Too many people already mentioned Time Crisis, sooo, how about Ridge Racer? It's only been an arcade game until afaik 2000, but even so, the home games are still absolutely arcade-like and we did have a straight home port of Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer V.

Pac-Man
Dig-Dug
Wonder Momo
Pole Position

Tekken Tag Tournament 1, or better know as, updated Tekken 3 for the arcade.

Time Crisis.

Pac-Man
I know it's fuckin' old school as hell, but I'll have some fun on that for awhile, usually it's only because of real-life interference that I'll even die or quit playing at all. ?
If you have an arcade in your area (or barcade, which might even be the better choice for this), I suggest checking if they have Pac-Man Battle Royale. It's a 4-player head-to-head game where you fight the other players for the highest score, and can even eat them. It was released on console, but is better to play with a bunch of random people at a bar.

I've seen multiple Time Crisis picks already so I'm gonna be the hipster and say Crisis Zone. The plastic TMP is so much fun to hold and shoot. The spiritual sequel, Razing Storm, was fun too.

Also, Galaga is easily my favorite Golden Age arcade game.

Crisis Zone is so good, but never actually had the chance to play the arcade version, always only played the ps2 version, but yeah, it is so good.

Namco Museum is lovely, and so are Namco arcade games. So... Pac-Man (+ Ms.), Galaga and Dig-Dug are the holy trinity of Namco for me.

Soul Calibur is one of my all-time favorite game series, so of course playing SC2 at the arcade was fun. Kinda wish we got a cabinet for 3, because that's my favorite of the series. >_>

For more obscure games? Tower of Druaga... I wish I liked it, I had more fun with Dragon Buster though. Gil is so sluggish, dude, and I have no idea how you're supposed to beat that game without a corkboard and string (or other dedicated / half-crazed players). Return of Ishtar also seems cool in theory, but frustrating in practice, due to Ki dying in one hit. I still wanna play Splatterhouse, let alone Valkyrie no Densetsu...

Namco's developed a lot of historically important arcade games, but my favorite (apart from the already-mentioned Luckt & Wild and Time Crisis II) would be The Outfoxies. Super unique predecessor to Smash Bros.

Sticking PURELY to arcade games developed by in-house Namco, it would have to be a toss up between Mappy, Dig Dug 2, and Gaplus. It’s funny that Namco has such an arcade lineage, but when I think of their best work, it’s all stuff they made for consoles. Their collections, their insane ports of TEKKEN and SoulCalibur, even their amazing console exclusive stuff like Klonoa and most Ridge Racers.

Namco really indoctrinated my generation into thinking they were more active in the arcade than they actually were lmao.

(Shout outs to that Ms. PAC-Man and Galaga 25th anniversary cabinet. Childhood classic, that one.)
