Lately I've been feeling like watching anime more often and I need some new recommendations. I don't like any of the new releases these days.

My all time favorites are Naruto Shippuuden, K-On, Shakugan No Shana, Steins;Gate, Lain, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Durarara and Anohana. This is my MAL by the way if you want to check it out. What about you?

Lain is one of my favourites! I didn't play the PSX game yet, because it got no english translation, but if it interest you, it is in english on its web browser version. I remember the project originally included the game as a relevant piece of the whole experience (like Animatrix is to Matrix for example).

I don't know what i could recommend to you, because despite i love anime, i've watched just a few. I would try Samurai Champloo, maybe. It's from Watanabe, that made Cowboy Bebop, but this time it's about samurais in a feudal japan mixed up with hip hop culture. The episodes flow between some comic absurdism and some really emotional moments. Actually, it has music composed by Nujabes for its original soundtrack, and i dare to say, Samurai Champloo is the responsible for the whole culture of lo-fi hip hop mixed with anime we have nowadays.

This episode covers homofobia in a pretty much sensible way e.g.
If you've watched it or doesn't like this style, in case you haven't watche yet, try my beloved Nana!!!! Cute and super funny (and sometimes a heart breaker!)

I also like K-On! and some other favorites are Azumanga Daioh, Nichijou - My Ordinary Life and several more. I did watch Samurai Champloo in mid 2021 and I liked it.

@Kyyo If you end up liking Samurai Champloo try Rurouni Kenshin, the 1996 version.

You somehow don't seem to have seen Baccano, which is a must watch given it is the precursor to Durarara.
My favorite anime is NANA, go watch that

I also highly recommend Death Parade (and pilot episode Death Billiards), ID:Invaded, Psycho-Pass, Bunny Drop, Deadman Wonderland, Love Chuunibyou and other delusions, and Watamote

Should keep you busy for a while

A lot of what has already been shared are great recommendations!
Since I don't see these mentioned yet, I would like to add:
Last Exile
Mushishi
Paranoia Agent
Gundam Wing

I sat and thought about this. Because if I had to point at an anime I have watched 100xs it's Project A-ko. But that's not a series. And a lot of the series I liked, I am not in love with in particular anymore. I have a hard time with a lot of anime looking like...really, really creepy. To me. And the transition to digital was not an easy one for me. But it makes sense. I suppose if I had to point towards one anime that I tend to love. In Japanese or English. In manga form, even though it gets lost along the way - is Princess Jellyfish or Kuragehime. My best friend is a ragingly beautiful drag queen who constantly gets all humans to fall in love with him. He's insanely fashionable, and I am a lil' stanky potato woman. In that sense I find it very cute. But it does have like weird shojo crap. Like weird, I can't human shojo crap. Which also is why I think I stopped watching anime as a whole. Cause I couldn't understand why people couldn't just like...be human.

A friend recommended I watched a movie about a deaf girl who transfers to an elementary school and gets bullied on. I think you could probably google that if you don't know it off the top of your head. It's quite good. I watched it with my gal and cried like a baby blob. Even though the art wasn't exactly what I was here for, I still enjoyed it.

Utena, also weird stuff in there, but I really love(d) this series obsessively because it was just weird absolutely nonsense. Just everybody fucking everyone nonsense. (Weird incest crap)

The last thing I saw was Migi to Dali. That was cute. But weird. But cute. My gal thought there was an incest-y thing going on in there too. I didn't catch it until I did. Super weird. But it was still cute.

I think if you're open to it, go to that one website that lists all the anime and ranks them (I have no clue what it's called it just pops up when I search anime). Then just poke around and you'll more than likely find something that you like. Since it's such a visual medium, it's a really good vibe-check to see if you dig what you're actually seeing displayed. Cause that tends to tell you if you'll be more receptive to it.

Oh, there's one more series but it's one that my friend likes. It makes me sad, so I can't watch it because I literally feel awful 10 minutes in every time. It's probably great though. As she has impeccable tastes. It's called Reign of Kings. Oh lied, one more - my brother loves a series called Dennou Coil. It's also probably pretty great, but I could never buy into it. I am not sure why.

(lieedddd, Mononoke. Is the series. I have shown to people. Who don't even like anime. And they always love it. *p.s. - the best Mononoke "episode" is actually the tail end of Ayakashi. Which was fun, but not as great.)

KAY! That's it. Good luck! Hope you find something that makes you =D

Oh, Paranoia Agent is so good. I randomly wanted to watch Happy Family Planning out of the blue. My gal had never seen it at all, and watched that episode alone and was enthralled. It's just such a sad series overall, that I have trouble watching it. I like the studio one, that was quite good. I mean, they're all quite good - but I freakin' hate incest (why is it in media so damn much!?). Speaking of incest, read Lost Souls recently. Hot damn, it was just a gay-fruck fest oroboros incest pit. skfhaskflahsf!!

The movie about the deaf girl is “Shape of Voice”, easily my favorite anime movie. Manga is great too, it’s got a whole ark the movie had to take out for time purposes, and the end goes on for a bit longer, showing you how everyone is doing a few months later

There we go - people looking for a good movie should watch this because it is actually, very much so, good =)

Absolutely love:
Serial Experiments Lain
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop
Most Miyazaki joints (Especially "Castle in the Sky" & "Princess Mononoke")
Dragon Ball (the oldschool 80's one)
Bobobo Bo Bobobo
Berserk (1997)
Durarara!!
Samurai Champloo
Evangelion (Notably "The End of Evangelion")

Some more modern stuff I've found neat are:
Godzilla Singular Point
OVERTAKE!
Buddy Daddies
The Way of the House Husband

I'm kind of old so probably a bunch you might've not heard of.

Tekkaman Blade, Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya were my first exposures to anime. They were dubbed to Spanish and were shown alongside Saturday morning cartoons. I also enjoyed Samurai X/Rurouni Kenshin's spanish dub.

Later on when I had access to a blockbuster I pretty much rented every Anime available. Those included:

Akira,
Ghost in a Shell,
Bubblegum Crisis,
Battle Angel Alita,
Ninja Scroll,
Perfect Blue,
Princess Mononoke,
Neon Genesis Evangelion,
Macross Plus,
Record of Lodoss War,
Vampire Hunter D,
Bastard!,
etc...

I haven't watched much anime since, I kind of dislike what they've done to anime these days with the moe style. But there are a couple of post 2000's animes that I enjoy. I did watch Naruto, Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan.

Nana is really good, it's a shame there was never a second season, but oh well the hiatus has rendered that posibility almost impossible
Post automatically merged:

Mine is Slam Dunk.

I love it so much that I actually went and published an entire article on it for a huge English-speaking retro outlet, a language I didn't master at the time.
Did you see The First Slam Dunk?
It was absolutely amazing

Writer of the manga got very sick way back when, so production on both the anime and manga stopped. It had nothing to do with seasons

Its been a few years since I heard anything though

My bad, I meant the hiatus on the manga is the reason it's almost impossible for the anime to continue.
English is not my first language

My favorites are probably Ranma, Lain, Texhnolyze, Evangelion, Cyborg 009 and the first season of Sailor Moon. I liked a lot Yu yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshi and Saint Seiya when I was younger and still like their mangas, but I haven't watched the actual animes in a decade so I am not sure they stand up the test of time as there's a few mangas I love but absolutely detest their animes, like Yu-Gi-Oh!.

oh and dubbed ghost stories!
