Believe or not, I inherited my music taste from my parents. My mom grew up in LA in the Seventies and Eighties and massively into Punk, New Wave/Post-Punk, EBM, Digital Hardcore and Industrial shit. My stepfather is mixed race and grew up in Tacoma in Sixties and Seventies, and was also into New Wave/Post-Punk stuff in the Eighties as well as Funk, Reggae and Hip-Hop of all types, but particularly P-Funk, Electro-Funk, Gangsta Rap and Underground/Indie Hip-Hop. My father (who wasn't in the picture for most of my youth) is in to far different stuff, and mostly listens to Bluegrass, Country and Metal of various stripes. He used to have broader music horizons, but has become increasingly About the only thing I inherited from him music-wise is a tolerence for the former two genres, and even a liking for some classic country (like Johnny Cash and Charlie Feathers). Apparently I was more than likely conceived to the NIN song Sin, and spent most of my youth listening music my parents liked. It helped that they were still on the cutting edge of music (in fact my mom and stepdad were DJs for a college radio station in Klamath Falls in the very early Aughties and would take me in with them). I've even managed to introduce my parents to new music they like, like RTJ, Death Grips and The I.L.Y's.

That first song is by the Australian Industrial band Angelspit, though the version I posted is remixed by the Norwegian-American Industrial Aggrotech band Combichrist.

Anyways, relevant:

I also have no idea how to describe it but from now on, this is how I'm gonna describe my music taste to people...

My music taste is some weird combination from video games, watching music videos on late night television and what I've inherited from my grandmother.

So Persona sound tracks, Primus & Billy Joel as examples of each :loldog

Yeah, video game soundtracks and MTV (only managed to watch it at the tail end of the nineties and the very early aughts before it turned into the reality TV brainrot it is now) were another influence for me as well. I think the first time I heard the Gorillaz is when I watched the 19-2000 video on MTV, and my first exposures to El-P were probably on [adult swim] and then the Tony Hawk's American Wasteland soundtrack. Not to mention all the GTA radio stations. In fact, one of the reasons I like Machine Girl is it reminds me of every [as] bump and video game soundtrack I've listened to at once. Speaking of which...

Tingle music > Zelda music (unironically)

I love how the video for the Health song is basically just the cutscenes from C&C: Red Alert looped over and over. Also, Dread Architect is MG's heaviest song since The Ugly Art. Holy shit, I love it.

Just spending the evening going through SecretSquizza's recent updates. Really good music content if you like electronica circa late 80's through the 90's
