I think I prefer the live version to the regular one. Black Gives Way to Blue has got to be one of my favorite AiC albums and I'm surprised more people don't talk about it. It may not sound as hard as their earlier work, but it sounds gloomy and is filled with sorrow. Layne would've loved it.

It's absolutely a good song, and Layne for sure would have loved the tune. Nice taste in music btw, very cool. As for the gloomy vibe yeah it has a very low-key melancholy tone to it.
