Hello RGT! So lately i've been wondering around to find some "hidden gems" in the racing category. Having a blast with Burnout series and Tokyo Xtreme Racer series, looking for some decent or must try ones, thanks to everyone in advance!

SEGA Rally Revo, Flatout 1&2, Ridge Racer 2 on PSP, Collin Mc Rae Rally 2005 (really tough driving, but realistic and runs on any PC)

If you’re into Burnout and Tokyo Xtreme Racer, you might want to check out some games like Ridge Racer Type 4, Auto Modellista, Enthusia Professional Racing, and Racing Lagoon. That last one’s got wild RPG elements mixed with street racing. Initial D: Special Stage and Wangan Midnight are solid picks if you’re into the Japanese arcade vibe. For something off-beat, Test Drive: Eve of Destruction delivers chaotic fun, and Street Supremacy on PSP scratches that Tokyo Xtreme itch. If you’re down for more stylized or experimental stuff, Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 and Mad Rally are worth a spin too. Plenty of hidden heat out there.

I love stuff like L.A. Rush (PS2) / Rush (PSP) or any of the Midnight Club games after the first one, mostly because they give you the open city to do whatever you want. In actual races, you can still go any route you want to beat your opponents.

Also, the Driver series from 3 onwards (some are more GTA-like), and Test Drive Unlimited.

To be honest, i've been hearing about Auto Modellista and Wangan Midnight. But i feel like Wangan would be a better choice for me since i just finished the anime for it.

Devil Z makes me feel weird..

I did try L.A. Rush and did finish every Midnight Club expect the third one, trains are b*stards is what i will say :D

But yeah other than that, those are really good games which gives you freedom. I really adore them.

outrun 2006 coast 2 coast is pretty fun. a lot of focus on drifting.

People have said most of the ones I'd say. Been meaning to get back to Super Woden GP 1 and 2, because I don't usually enjoy that style of racer, but those clicked with me pretty good for some reason.

Also Need for Speed Most Wanted, the one from like 2005 or so, not the newer one.

Oh definitely, 2005 was way ahead of it's time overall, especially the soundtrack on that one is just awesome in my opinion.

I intend to share some incredible SEGA racers soon enough in this thread, but I have to give massive props to this game right here:

Despite the confusing title, this gem is an absolutely incredible arcade racer even to this day. It’s the kind of game that it’s easy to hop in and out of on a whim, and it’s a good reason to find a way to play PSP games. It’s especially good if you play portably, as it’s the way the game was meant to be played and the way it’s more impressive. Quite the showpiece for the little handheld that still impressed me: somebody born less than a year before it released in Japan.

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard about it, but sadly I never gave it a try. After reading your thoughts, it has definitely earned a spot on my list.

Well earned! It’s got way better handling than any other Ridge Racer before it, in my opinion. And Nitros actually fits Ridge Racer’s gameplay rather well mechanically!

Just wanted to drop this off since i think people may come here to look for some games to try out.

DT Racer was just so fun to play because of it's mechanics, and it's battle mechanism. It was a blast back in the days.

I just saw the big "PS2" in the thread title, haha. Also, I forgot Rumble Racing!
No, really. I was about to get into some SEGA Saturn racers but I had to stop myself when I saw that. Pain.

For me i bounce between Burnout 3, Wipeout 2097, Episode 1 Racer & Rock and Roll Racing 2!
I like Gran Turismo 4 but dang I'm horrible at the license tests lol

TOCA Race Driver 2 is one that immediately comes to mind, I remember always trying to cause a big crash when playing the formula ford race.

Now i can't lie and i'm pretty confident that, Gran Turismo license tests are there just to makes us lose all our sanity in a video game.

Outrun Coast 2 Coast is good fun. I know Forza Horizon games are kinda all derivative of each other now, but I still love them. Sometimes I get nostalgic for Gran Turismo 3.

Recently I had friends over and we randomly started Rush 2049 on Dreamcast. Dudes... that game is an absolute blast in multiplayer and I never would have known. I haven't heard anyone talk about it. Battle mode is way, way better than it should be.

Gran Turismo 2: A-Spec if you're looking for an extensive, fan made mod for a PS1 Racing Classic.

Or if you're looking for a real PS2 hidden gem, Auto Modellista by Capcom is a real good choice.

I spent quite a bot of time on Test Drive Unlimited back in the day. Hawaii made for a pretty good open world racer.
