What are some of your other hobbies?

I'm into jazz, dnb, rock, and synth. :D
Jazz boasts very good musicians with a remarkable improvisational technique. Perhaps one of the few jazz musicians I really like is John Coltrane, who my father introduced me to when I was a child. His tunes are distinctive and differ from everything else....

I try to dabble in a few things. I'm a big reader, or at least Audible listener when I don't have time to read (I say it still counts, fight me). Mainly horror, fantasy and sci-fi, so the usual. I mainly stick to the classics- my favourite author is probably either Robert E. Howard or H.P Lovecraft, it depends on the day really. I also like biographies and nonfiction stuff, I'm currently listening to John Romero's autobiography Doom Guy, some of the stories in there are pretty wild.

I also have been a guitar player for maybe about 17 years now. Gave up the rockstar dream after 11th grade, so I just play for fun and the hobby now. I'm primarily into metal and hard rock stuff, but I like to keep an open mind musically. Off the top of my head my favourite bands in no particular order: Black Sabbath (they're number 1 at least), Death, Deftones, Crowbar, High on Fire.

I used to be an artist when I was still in school, but I ended up growing out of it I think. I used to want to be a comic book artist, but I'm low-key glad I didn't now as that side of the industry is not the nicest or most secure or turns out.

Edit: forgot my biggest hobby somehow. I also attempt to write my own stuff other than the articles I do here, the dream is to somehow go professional with it in some way. I'm designing some TTRPGs slowly but surely with a friend, and mainly write various stories in a multitude of different forms and types. Fingers crossed, boys.

If you like Sci-Fi audio books then I recommend "Red Rising" (Pierce Brown).

Since listening to this at work back in Febuary I've since bought all of the books in the series, except the latest one (just because I haven't got to it yet).

The audio book version is excellent. It's unabridged and the narrator switches between accents and voices effortlessly. Not to mention it's a really good story anyway.
Very highly recommended.

Tip: Before listening to the audiobook version make sure you have the map that was included with the physical release of the book.
(In fact I may as well just include it here...)

Sorry to anyone with arachnophobia
I've been taking care of this little guy for about a half a year now.

Goober 1.jpg

He's a Bold jumping spider and only about the size of my thumb nail now. It's very therapeutic to watch him, especially when he hunts. Sometimes I can get him to come out and chill on my hand but he's so skittish usually. I've learned a lot by taking care of him. Also his name is Goober

I might have one (the phobia), but that's one little cute thing you got there

I like listening to music. Have a small vinyl collection going.
I also like sports, mainly baseball, hockey, (association and gridiron) football, and volleyball. Used to play volleyball but haven't in quite a while.
I went to school for math so I still occasionally self study for fun (have a small horde of books and pdfs developing).
Used to draw and write a small bit in high school, need to get back into it

ooo nice several other artists here, i also like to draw, mostly just my dnd/ttrpg characters though. i also watch a lot of movies, maybe too many.

heres some of my recent ttrpg characters:
Dr Tyrechades Corvinius Yuus, a cyborg so old that they're no longer recognizable as human

Fear the mighty brickwizard!! I love this little weirdo..

Fantastic art all around, you have a real knack for fleshing out character designs! The concept of a cyborg so modified to the point where they can hardly even be called human is fascinating, I need to read a sci-fi novel starring Dr. Trychades ASAP!

Such talented artists on this site, an art thread is sorely needed (if there isnt one already haha)

I am a big fan of movies and have a film degree. I try to watch at least one movie a week and will watch some movies even when I know they will be bad as you can get some enjoyment out of them, and some are so bad they become good. Over the past 40 years I couldn't even tell you how many films I have seen.

I'm struggling with one movie a month, haha.. I don't know how you manage!

What was your favourite movie from this year? If you keep up with recent films, that is ::biggrin

Wow, that's awesome! Have you ever had a chance to use it professionally?
I directed a music video for a band in Kansas about 20 years ago, filmed electronic music shows in Lawrence, KS for a production company, and was a cameraman for NWA's CSW wrestling for a couple years. I eventually got into engineering work as that wasn't paying the bills.
