What are some of your "must-have" features in games?

Hahahaha I'm dying

Well people already wrote most of what I would but as an addendum:

• Gamma, brightness, contrast, saturation, tint and exposure setting that allow users to fine-tune these.

• Considering even some single-player games have no "pause" feature: Pause feature is dead must!!! "Souls-genre" my ass. Then make the game able to pause outside of combat. Excuses, excuses lol.

• "Skip anything no matter what" feature. Even "turn off dialogues" option. And also "no random character talk" option.

• Decent new game plus. Persona series is a good example. New game plus is really useless, you still have to grind relationships and personas back. WTF dude.

• Decent save system. Able to name save files and add note to the saves. Save limit should be limited by how much your storage devices can handle.

• In-game music playlist editing. Able to turn on/off every music and able to select when they should play.

• If the game has in-game map: Able to turn it on/off, adjust its zoom level. Ability to add marks and notes on map.

• Ability to at least adjust color edit for character you play as. If you don't want your guy to be one of those generic blond blue eyes turn him into jet black hair red eyes guy -> profit. It also include their clothes too. I would prefer whole character creation if the character is visible in the game, if it's FPS like CyberJunk 2077 I don't see a point for character creation lol. As for racing games, ability to adjust vehicle color to anything.

• For FPS games: Ability to adjust where the gun will be. Modern FPS games doesn't make sense because where gun looks like. I prefer me gun in the middle at least.

• For any game that you kill lots of people in short time: Combo meter either based on hit and/or kills.

• Any point and click and isometric video game: Ability to zoom in and out a lot.

• For racing games: Cockpit camera with decently functioning mirror.

• For TPSs: Ability to adjust camera location and FOV in great detail.

You reminded me! Skippable cutscenes are a must!

I hate when rpgs restrict players in annoying ways. For example, not having enough skill points to max out everything, or Hikari not being able to collect all of the learned skills in Octopath Traveller II. I want to MAX...OUT...MY...CHARACTERS. I seek perfection

reasons-why-perfect-cell-is-the-best-dragon-ball-villain.jpg

New game plus modes should be mandatory in rpgs by now

Being able to skip cutscenes
Subtitles/captions
Dual audio for Japanese releases
Checkpoints that SAVE...YOUR...PROGRESS
Options to invert controls and remap buttons
Always give players a choice between analog or d-pad for 2d games.

Stores telling me who can and what the weapon/armor can do
Multiple weapon slots, IDC about the "Realistic" only two selectable weapons and a peashooter, i play FPS's to wreck shit
In a trope a game must NOT have i really HATE rubberband AI in racing games, i would accept it in Hard Mode, but most games i like has it mandatorily
Difficulty Settings not limited to "how spongy and hard hitting you like your enemies?"

For shooters of whatever type: there must be a shotgun. Shotguns, maybe. I will accept nothing else. I'd also prefer them to be functional, but that's getting a little greedy here.

For action games, I personally need a variety of different weapons with some amount of differences between them. I'm all about having fun stuff and variety. Swords should feel different from axes, or spears or whatever else. I tried Lies of P a few days ago (it's a free PS plus game right now) and I got really turned off since everything seemingly was just a sword or a blunt weapon basically. Where's the axes, or the whips or the bows. It's also one of my issues with the average Souls-style game that's not Nioh 2, to be fair. I prefer bigger differences between weapons, basically.

I think brawlers, hack and slash games, character action titles, musou games, etc. don't incorporate the environment enough.

Developers only focus on combos, special attacks, weapons, etc, etc, etc. and nothing else. Sleeping Dogs had the right idea and still has one of the most fun combat systems I've seen.

I do prefer when I can see the enemies so I can choose my battles but I don't mind random encounters too much, although, some games have an encounter rate so high that going from one town to the next basically becomes torture.

Skippable cutscenes are a must nowadays.

I also like to have a good balance in the gameplay, I hate when games have a broken move or a meta build.

Skippable cutscenes make or break my decision to replay a game lol

Nah, I like feeling over-powered in RPGs :loldog as an example: Goku is so broken in DBZ Attack of the Saiyans on DS. They actually have a way to balance it out though, because he isn't around for good chunks of the story.

Well, he is the strongest saiyan after all (I still prefer Vegeta though)
But I was not really talking about RPGs when I said that. I was remembering a game I played some years ago, Payday 2, and the balance in this game is so broken that if you don't use the meta build on the harder difficulties, you'll just get blown to bits.
When you are pretty much FORCED to use a certain build or move or whatever else to beat it.

Ah, fair enough on all counts. I prefer Gohan, to be honest!

The option to uninstall the game because your game sucks RPG FPS or whatever

The option to uninstall the uninstall option.

Being able to see enemy HP , after playing WarCraft 3 i just can't sit down without knowing how much hits remain to enemies bought a sense materia to all when i played Final Fantasy 7.

To avoid overkill , know what to counter with etc , honestly WarCraft 3 does so many things right when it comes to UI and how good it controls , shift click and press the mouse you can do many actions , cast a spell then turn into a bear with druid of tee claw.

Ability to select levels , subtitles too.

Just play the peak RTS that is WC3 and you will know what's good.
