NES What are some NES games that you guys think were better off on the Famicom?

Legend of Zelda on Famicom because of the mic and music

Contra...there is actually a story

The Adventures of Bayou Billy aka Mad City. The gameplay is not clunky and difficult than the US release.

Kame no Ongaeshi: Urashima Densetsu - also known as Xexyz in the US. Although there were some minor improvements made to the US release, the original story was completely omitted.

Rygar. The famicon version, Argos no Senshi: Hachamecha Daishingeki, has a banger of a soundtrack. Rygar's is good too, but it's Conan the Barbanian stuff.

There are a ton of good games that originally released for the Disk System that were ported to the NES with less features. Kid Icarus has a save system that got removed on the NES for passwords. Same thing happened with Metroid. The Legend of Zelda had a feature where you could scream into the microphone on the second controller to kill Poes. These games also had better sound because the Disk System added an extra wave synth. Also, Super Mario Bros. 2 released only on the Disk System which meant we never got it in the West.

Life Force

The Original Salamander allows for three Options compared to LifeForce and it has three "endings" (Actually an animation in the credits) plays after the credits roll, Life Force on the other hand just give you the Konami logo and the credits song doesn't even ends properly, it just suddendly cuts

Akumajou Densetsu, because Sypha's lightning spell does more damage if you hit the boss with all three projectiles simultaneously in the famicom version.

When it comes to balance changes, I generally like the western versions better. Ninja Gaiden 3 and Castlevania 3 are a joke in their Japanese versions, in fact I'd argue that Grant is an improvement in the NES version.
But Bayou Billy/Mad City is indeed the exception, as far as I know it was one of the first games to receive such balance changes and they just hadn't figured out how to do it right yet.

Gyruss. I believe the Famicom version is missing the Konami code but the music alone makes it the better version.

And then there is The Bard's Tale. The US version was given half the rom size and is completely butchered. A real shame considering how starved for RPGs American NES players were back then.
