A thread for games based on a show, movie, brand, etc that you love, hate, or just find interesting in some form.

For one, the original Shrek tie-in game being not just a launch title but a whole exclusive for the original Xbox has always been interesting to me, big movie tie-in games arent usually the type of game I'd associate with being exclusive to a single platform.

I love the T&C: Surf Design games on NES because they seem like the wildest overlap -- could anyone involved think that both groups (gamers, outdoor sport fanatics) would be interested in it? And, yet, it was probably one of LJN's safest, most profitable bets.

I also really like the utterly ridiculous/awesome Revolution X game.

There were a bunch of licensed anime games that never left japan that were super interesting and even fun!

Off the top of my head, I remember Shinkon Gattai Godannar (PS2), Gear fighter Dendoh (PS1).. Heck, Queens gate on the PSP was really great!

On the western side of things, I always liked the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer game on Xbox.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2:Battle Nexus on the Game Boy Advance. Unlike the first GBA game and the console ports which were straighforward beat em' ups, the gba port is basically Ninja Five-O 2(was even developed by the same team as that game), and goes for this weird sorta linear metroidvania-lite stealth vibe for it's gameplay with you having to backtrack around every level looking for your weapons (The turtles dont start off with their iconic weapons for some reason) and keycards to advance. Music also has this weird sorta relaxing futuristic Bomberman vibe to it rather than the rock'n'roll Turtles games typically go with.

Weird game, far from perfect, but also super interesting and worth a shot if you're into experimental 2d platformers

Also shoutouts to the surprisingly good Knight Rider and Die Hard PC-Engine games lmao

Whenever i talk about video-games with people that are not into video-games, i like to bring up any game based on a reality TV-show and see their confused faces.

I find it surprising that there's a couple of wonderswan games for Junji Ito's Uzumaki series, although it seems like no one has ever released a fan translation of them... Also like both korean titles released for the DS, inspired by Nexon's franchises Ragnarök and Maple Story. And there's also those PS1 promo games for Ghost In The Shell and Cowboy Bebop.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'm completely obsessed by games made as a promo of wide-known trash food brands, like the ones for the SNES staring Chester Cheeta (shitty platform mechanics lol), the M&Ms games (my fav is the GBC one), Yo! Noid (NES), Coca-Cola kid (Game Gear) and so many others lmao...

Also love anything cartoon network-related, limited to early 2000s shows.

This one is interesting, it is based on specifically on the Brazilian version of Big Brother, and is a The Sims like life sim.It was published by a Brazilian Publisher and no one remembers it.

Been playing that new Guardians of the Galaxy game, it got overshadowed by dogass Marvel's Avengers, but it's really cool.

I recently played through Code Lyoko DS and Quest for Infinity on Wii, sat through the show not too long ago after getting a blast of nostalgia and decided to try them, pretty cool little experiences for the time.

For the 4th I went to my buddies house and we all shot the shit while drinking, and I remembered that I had just modded up my friend's PS3, and I saw that I put Shrek SuperSlam on there, so I had them play it, really awesome game even after all these years and getting older, I especially like the short stories all the missions have.

I remember the old Chronicles of Riddick game that I thought was cool as a kid, it was on PS2.

Speaking on Code Lyoko, Cartoon Network actually had quite a few games from the time that were really well made for being kids games. I especially like Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Misadventures, and Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. One was a platformer and the other was a Power Stone clone.

That new Robocop game is a hidden gem I swear. Really awesome.

You don't see a lot of licensed games outside of comic book stuff and the occasional movie tie in, like John Wick Hex. It's kinda a lost art from the NES to PS2 eras.

The Home Improvement game on the SNES. It still baffles my mind that someone thought turning a family sitcom into a platformer was a good idea worth programming.

I might be stupid, I've known about those games since I was a young kid and despite all of LJN's other videogame output I never once realised it was based on a clothing brand.

Yeah, I played it when it was free on PSN this year. Real fun blasting enemies into bloody messes with the burst-fire pistol.

Can't forget the entire manual being blocked off with a "REAL MEN DON'T NEED INSTRUCTIONS"

Scarface: The World is Yours.

It acts as a what-if sequel to the 1983 film. It also adds more lore to the world of Scarface. It was a pretty cool game. Best of all, it was also released for the Wii, which it makes up for the lack of GTA on the console. Dare I say that it might be better than Vice City?

You won't believe me if i tell you there is a Wizard of OZ JRPG that makes you move a sphere in the DS's touch screen... nor the fact is actually great (Weird and annoying "Touch a trackball to move" gimmick aside)

EDIT: I was under Mandarina effect that it was Japan Only, but actually it came to USA too

TBF Robocop in general has one of the best track records when it comes to licensed games. With a few exceptions like Robocop 3 on snes and that dookie-ass Titus Xbox game his stuff consistently ranges from good to literal peak fiction (Robocop vs the Terminator on Genesis my beloved.,,..,.,,.)

Let's see... Astro Boy Omega Factor is an absolute gem for the GBA. It's Treasure so no surprises there. Then on DS you've got Jump Super Stars. I imported that back in the day and it was well worth the trouble. The licensed Jupiter picross games are all pretty great too. I especially liked the Sega Classics and Kemono Friends entries.

I had a good time with One Piece Grand Adventure back in middle school but it probably hasn't aged great. Could say the same for X-Men Legends. A lot of fun back then but who knows how I'd feel playing it nowadays. And if we're talking X-Men, of course you can't forget MAHVEL 2 BAYBEE.

Ah! I almost forgot about Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. Classic. That Harvey Birdman game for Wii was also pretty good. Short but sweet.

"John Wick Hex" has been one of those games that I decided I had to play as soon as I've seen the screenshot and the description in the eshop. Luckily I've found it physical, used and cheap at Gamestop, and though on Switch it has random crashes I've completed it twice and enjoyed very much.
Please note I knew nothing about John Wick: I've looked for videos of the movies after playing the game.

i remember X-Files on PS1 was pretty good?
also 007 Agent Under Fire on Gamecube has maybe simple but pretty solid gameplay, better multiplatform version imo

Batman '89

which spawned the Sunsoft NES and Genesis Batman games. I love the OST of those games.
And the game from the sequel movie, Konami's Batman Returns for the SNES. Also amazing OST. I love replaying those games just to listen to the music.

Half the reason why they're my favorite batman movies are those games.
