I've been playing a lot of heavy story focused or mechanically complex games on the ps2, and now, I just want to play something simpler to relax a little (and test my new external drive!)

So, what are some games that are easy to get into and pretty fun?

Stuart little 3 is pretty chill, I always dreamt about turning into really little guy and then playing with toys in real life size
Steambot Chronicles also nice, the control is the main attraction here, it really feels like we are the ones controlling the steambot
Tony Hawk's series
and...
Harvest Moon games, but don't play it right, play it wrong, don't bother doing things to raise affections or trigger certain events

if Japanese is not a problem, there's boku no natsuyasumi 2

Bokunatsu 2 has an english patch by hilltop works, afaik

How do you feel about music / rhythm games?

I really enjoy both Frequency and Amplitude. They're very easy on the easiest settings (as one would hope!) and it's hard to fail songs at the lower difficulty levels. Perfect for just kicking back and vibing to the music for a while - while enjoying some trippy visuals, to boot! If you have a soft spot for late 90s / early 2000s Drum & Bass / Electro / Pop Remixes, all the better 😅

Area 51 is actually a pretty chill game disguised as an action shooter. It has a nice long tutorial intro where you get a feel for the world and the physics, and the pacing never gets to overwhelming, even once the action starts. Think DOOM 3 but brighter

Oh yeah, and Kingdom Hearts/Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+ of course, especially on lower difficulty settings (but I'd recommend playing on Proud/Critical) anyway.

Dead or Alive 2 and SSX 3. Barely any plot to speak of, easy to get into, simple mechanics (though can be deep if you really want to get into them), won't make you tear your hair out in frustration unless you go for the hardest challenges and are pretty chill even if you suck like I do.

Warrior games: Samurai, Dinasty, Gundam.
Played them on easy sometimes to farm things like materials or just listening to music while launching entire battalions into the air like balloons filled with helium.

I would also add SSX On Tour personally. Just picking one of the mountain tops in free ride and chilling down the mountain for 15 to 30 minutes.
