I'm trying to play as many different things I can with my ps2 and I think only a small percentage of genres haven't been tested yet, that includes fighting games! I'm more of a 2D type of gal, so if you got any good 2D (or even 3D, if we're low on options) I'd like to know!!

Btw, you guys like tokusatsu? There's a lot of ultraman and kamen rider in the most downloaded/voted section of ps2 fighting games. That's awesome!!! I still need to finish agito...

Only fighting games I played (and enjoyed) on ps2 are "Dead or Alive 2" and "Soul Calibur 3", so I can only suggest them even if they are 3d

If by 2D you don't necessarily mean sprite games but just fighting games on a 2D plane (left and right) then I'm recommending Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja 4 and 5. I know licensed anime fighters usually primarily cater to their fans and depth wise aren't taken serious in the competitive scene, but they are genuinely solid games.

I spent a a few months a little while ago tracking down and playing all the fighting games.

The King of Fighters ps2 ports are good. Most of the early Street Fighter games have ps2 ports. There's the vs. games like Marvel vs. Capcom and SNK vs Capcom. Neogeo battle coliseum isn't bad. The Samurai Shodown series was also ported to ps2. There's also a bunch of ps2 anime fighters like Guilty Gear.

I don't like Naruto, but I goddamm love his games lol

Dude, there are a lot!

Bloody Roar 3 & 4 are goddamn masterpieces and I personally prefer them over Tekken due to how easy they are to pick up and play.

Digimon Rumble Arena 2 was an amazing party game and really fun to play with friends.

Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja 5 was insanely good and one of the cornerstones of my childhood.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is a masterpiece, I remember spending a lot of time with friends trying to unlock everything.

Every single Capcom Fighting Game, specially the amazing Street Fighter III: Third Strike port (I was B Rank in that game in Fightcade and I firmly believe its the greatest fighting game of all time. Main Alex)

SNK knocked it out of the part with all the ports and personally the greatest KOF game (Aside from 98') with The King of Fighter 2002 Ultimate Match (I remember learning every single optimal EX MODE combo during summer vacations)

Mortal Kombat Armageddon was fun. Not really great but I had a lot of fun with how dumb and simple it was. Even my mom could consistently win due to how viable special move spam was.

Now for actual best fighting game in the console I believe its Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, I played the hell out of it back in the day, my personal record was around 800 in Survival Mode, the game feels impossible to master and its ridiculously complex and demanding but rewarding. Also Order Sol is there.

DOA2 and Tekken 5 for sure.

Bro, you gotta hop on Matrimelee, super unique and just plain fun fighting game with some guest characters from the Double Dragons fighting game, Rage of the Dragons

Gotta love those crossover games!! There was one for PS3 called Fighting Climax with guest characters like Shana from the anime Shakugan no Shana, and I bought one for PS4 that I forget the name of where you could play as this green haired chick from this horror visual novel.

Yeah most of the Naruto games are actual god damn quality. They also abridge the story very well. Like if you don't feel like bindging 500 episodes, play Storm 2-4 and you got the most important beats.

Capcom Vs Snk 2 is by far the best 2d fighter on the PS2. Followed by Marvel Vs Capcom 2. And if you want to play imports you can play the third strike port. Guilty Gear is also really good. I would try all of those premium games first before trying lesser "hidden gems" that people are posting in here.

Sengoku Basara X
It's a Arc System Works joint. Way awesome.

It's in the repository, as well as a 2D fighter compilation (also in the repository) that has some pretty rad games.
