Is there an anime you slept on or just didn't know existed for a decade or more and then you finally tried it/found out about it? I remember seeing commercials for Medabots back in the early 00s but for some reason I never watched it even though it would totally been up preteen me's alley. But then in 2013 I decided to see what I missed out on so I watched every episode and during the very first episode I said to myself, "Why didn't I watch this when I was a kid? I would've LOVED this!"

Who else experienced an anime well after it was relevant and wished they had seen it sooner?

Technically, Dragon Ball Z had started in 1989 over in Japan. That might not count for this because, even though it was 10+ years old, I was 10- years old when I watched it.

If it has to be something from when I'd grown up a bit, Ranma 1/2 is probably the best answer. I remember watching and loving InuYasha as a kid, and didn't know Ranma was created by the same person. I didn't end up watching Ranma until I was like 20? I think?
I think younger me would have dismissed Ranma because it looked older, but I'm actually pretty nostalgic for the design of 80's/90's anime nowadays hehe.

Maybe Baccano! 🤔I discovered it a long time after it came out.

Rurouni Kenshin and G Gundam just because it took forever to track down the DVDs at f.y.e. Yu Yu Hakusho didn't have any full season box sets either, you had to buy all 30 something DVDs separately!
I had to rent Yu-Yu-Hakusho as a kid. My local rental store had a limited selection, so I think I rented the first two or three DVDs over and over and caught what episodes I could on adult swim. They finally did release full box sets, but I think that was sometime in the 2010's? Or at least, that's when I bought mine

I feel like I could list off a ton of anime from the 70's-90's that would fit this criteria, but I guess for me the one I discovered later that genuinely ended up being one of my top 5 is Eureka Seven. I didn't discover it until well over 10 years since it had finished airing and I genuinely couldn't believe how much I loved it and how much I needed it at the time. Great series, would recommend.

In my case they were Shijyou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi/Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple 🥋 (What is a Martial Arts anime) and Inazuma Eleven/Super Once in Latin America ⚽ (What is a Soccer anime) that I watched both animes on ZAZ on TV Cable along with my sister and that were good times and that was back in 2011.

Most anime I got into was old by the time I first watched it. Stuff like Bubblegum Crisis, Angel Cop or Dominion Tank Police never aired where I live so I didn't discover it until late 2000s when the Internet started becoming a viable place to watch and maybe even download anime.

"I My Me! Strawberry Eggs"
I had seen it on a lot of lists for comedy anime when I would be in the mood for some silly comedy anime. I always shrugged it off because of the name. It looked almost like a RomCom (Which i hate) but one night, while bored and feeling a bit under the weather I decided to give it a try.

It turned out to be pretty funny, if a bit dumb. But I like dumb comedy.

I remember growing up Fullmetal Alchemist would come on before Inuyasha, but I never had any idea of what was happening or the difference between the original or Brotherhood so I didn't give it a fair chance until I had time during the pandemic and I was blown away by how good it was. If I would have watched it as a kid I would have been really into it!

aaah yes I remember it like yesterday. Around 2010 me & my bro were messing around with smash brawl mods & downloaded a guy called Ichigo. Got hooked & proceeded to binge Bleach.

Like damn, getting into anime in 2010, I had a whole catalog of classics to catch up on! The holy trinity of recommendations which were always Death Note, FMA & anything Gainax. Azumanga, Black Lagoon & Code Geass also came up. Ouran Highschool club (for some reason) too. Heck, even Steins;Gate also started airing shortly after. What a time to be alive!!

- Dragon Ball
- Dragon Ball Z
- Captain Tsubasa
- Naruto
- Slam Dunk
- Dr. Slump
- Initial D
- Wangan Midnight
- Serial Experiments Lain
- Patlabor
- One Piece
- City Hunter
- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
- Death Note
- Angel Beats
- Sword Art Online
- My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

And an anime I don't remember its name but I watched it all the way into the end and all but really didn't give me much impression enough to remember its name:

It was about a high school kid gains some super power and wanna take down the whole country because he is a damn terrorist lol. It sets in the modern age but rather very futuristic because army was using mecha, otherwise I don't even remember if they were using a cell phone. I remember watching it because of a meme but ended up thinking "hmm it is actually interesting". In a way it's similar to Death Note but not simple as that and our main guy is actually smart lol. I may Google it and find some answers but I really wouldn't remember which one is true because all animes looks like same shit lol. I remember it was old like early 2000 old but watched it around 2022-2023 when I was very tired and was too busy doing some project so me tired brain didn't record much lol.

Late 2000's/early 2010's was one of the best times to start getting into anime. So many quality series came out during that time.

I was born in 2002, and when I was watching a channel called Band/Bandeirantes, there was a part that only anime were passing. I always changed the channel because I wanted to watch Hey Arnold and not animes, and one of the animes I missed at that time was Gintama. Truly a masterpiece that I let it slip!

I watched Riding Bean a few years back after finding it randomly online and it became me and my friends' tradition to watch it every month. I've seen Gunsmith Cats just the once, and it was good, but Bean is just so watchable at a svelte 50~ minutes.
