For me personally, I would love to see the timeline where the Dreamcast didn't die and Sega kept making consoles after it. I know that's a bit cliche, but as a Sega fan its something I've thought about for years lol.

But what's an alternate timeline that you would want to see?

The timeline where the Dreamcast was a success.
The Dreamcast will always be a success in my heart 😔

What happened if Sony and Nintendo did make a that Nintendo add on snes what will be like today Mario and Crash Bandicoot.
I think about this too sometimes. I wonder what games would have came out for it.

The timeline where Vanilla Ninja Gaiden 3 and Yaiba didn't get made (Razor's Edge can stay) and put the franchise in hibernation and we instead got numerous great NG games over the last decade.

Heck, lot's of franchises where the game that killed them never happened.

timeline where Kouji Okada and Satomi Tadashi never left Atlus and they keep making Megaten games with Kazuma Kaneko as the artist.
and the timeline where Metroidvania never happen.
and the timeline where all Digimon are Digital Monsters, not Digital Cosplayer or some kind of jagged shining armored shit.

The timeline where Reagan-era American executives won and Pikachu was turned into a Cat-lady with tits for the western release of the og Pòkemon

Sega sega sega, yap yap yap.

A timeline were we got games being made for fun instead of focusing on making "Hollywood big budget games with zero effort or life" something Yamauchi said back in 1999

The timeline where we get Scalebound or Unsung Story is actually completed to a faithful spiritual successor spawning more spiritual successor that deliver and didn't run off with your money. One where proper preservation laws are in place and for archiving that infringement can't be used as a challenge it's removal. And one where Otomate abandons the consoles for PC glory and gets wider exposure to the western audience spawning more fan translations that the VN genre gets a faster head start to the western market than a minor niche that never takes advantage of the desperate fanbase throwing money on gacha heavy mobile ones that tapped into the mine first.

in a timeline where Saturn was a success outside of Japan and the devs started to understand better Saturn's complex architecture making games that look better on Saturn than PS1, PC and even N64

oh, and a timeline where Sega decided to not make Panzer Dragoon Orta, Crazy Taxi 3, GunValkyrie, Jet Set Radio Future and other games as OG Xbox exclusives instead, made Dreamcast, Gamecube and PC versions too

it would have been cool to live in a parallel universe where cpu and gpu manufacturers kept going past the 90s/early 2000s. imagine building a pc with a 8 core/16 threads cyrix cpu and combine it with a high range 3DFX Voodoo with like 20gb of gddr6 vram or somethin, with the latest and greatest implementation of the glide api, of course 😭

A time where SEGA whooped Nintendo’s butt so hard that it went under and their IPs are being split up by SEGA and Sony. Microsoft never entered the console wars and focused on making powerful and problem free PCs.
I have a better idea, a timeline where that shitty ass rivalry never happen like in Japan

while not strictly gaming but it is related~
I would like to see a timeline where Sonic SatAM did not get canceled and became the mainline Sonic media.

I don't care if any old failed Sega console was a "success", I would just want Sega keep releasing consoles and they release Genesis 2 that's even way better than PS2 as technically and game library-wise lol.

If we're talking industry scale I guess one where the Sega Dreamcast wasn't a failure like others have said. Maybe the Saturn, 32X and Sega-CD disappear in that reality to help things along, who knows.

Smaller scale? I dunno. I guess Valve not stopping making games pretty much entirely and still making bangers every once in a while?
