Were you ever part of a clan? How did it go?

[A4H] ...:::Assassins4Hire:::... clan back in the early/mid 2000s also was part of the ~~Hyrulian Knights~~ [HK] clan

we mainly played stuff like COD2, BF1942/Vietnam, REO2, and so on.

I joined some clans and guilds in some games back then, but never was able to like break conversation with other members... (both shy online at the time and a slight language barrier). RuneScape was a great experience to make some friends online.

Not really, I think Im not social enough.

Im part of a guild/free company on FFXIV because my brother made the connection, but I barely talked to people there. They are good people tho,

I was part of a PKing clan in Runescape back in the day and I tried to join clans in damn near every game I played. Kingdom of Loathing had me bouncing around from clan to clan hopin anyone would keep me long term. KoL in particular was funny because you could donate your resources to the clan to help them buy defensive and offensive tools for use in clan battles. I was broke almost all the time cause I would basically give everything I earned to the clans, not cause they asked but because young me was /really/ desperate to make friends and I figured if I just kept donating people would like me. It got to a point where a couple mods noticed how stagnant my gear was and that I was complaining about certain areas being way too difficult for how long I had been playing. They actually told me to STOP donating for a while cause I was being too selfless with my stuff lol

Oh god, my Warcraft 3 days were really big on the clans. I ended up in a Dynasty Warriors community with several different clans of the fandom. Eventually I broke from them to form a Samurai Warriors clan but still was part of the Koei fandom community so wasn't much of a change other than I got to found and lead Clan Oda before I dumped it on my right hand man, teamed up with an old buddy from clan Ro3K to create new names and Clan Date to just mess with the guy I left in charge of Oda :p Eventually I did spend some time with an anime clan before returning to end my days in Oda. Those days are coming up on two decades soon and a bunch of us still chat from time to time on Facebook and Discord even though we no longer play the same games.

My WoW guilds have all been casual social experiences which there isn't much to really say about them. No real negative experiences. Can't say the same for the FCs I have been part of in FFXIV. Those always ended up having drama and me eventually drifting away from the game

Used to be part of a CS:GO clan that started off super strong but ended up falling apart over time. Back then, we were all super hyped, grinding matches, coming up with clan names, doing scrims, all that stuff. It actually felt like a little community, around 15 of us or so. But as time went on and everyone’s ranks started spreading out, things changed. Some people started taking the game way too seriously, and that’s when the drama started. We had this one dude who ranked way higher than the rest of us, most of us were placed around Silver or Gold, while he hit Master Guardian and suddenly started acting like he was above everyone else. Got super cocky, talked down to people, and just killed the whole vibe and enthusiasm for the game. What used to be fun and friendly turned into arguments, name-calling, and straight-up bullying. Eventually we would begin to have serious talks about it as if it was an intervention which led to people stopped showing up, and the group chat went dead which led to the clan just kinda died out. Sucks how something that started off so fun ended like that.

That whole thing’s been long buried at this point. We all kinda moved on to other games. Lately, me and a couple buddies of mine decided to jump into Helldivers 2 since mid 2024, and it’s been a pretty fun change of pace. There isn't an official way to create a guild or clan in the game now, but it's nice to pretend that we have one now that we have like 20 people in our group who plays is either partially or daily.

I've always been very private, even in online gaming or my other passions.
Despite this, in my senior year of high school I joined a "clan".

More than a clan, it was a group of kids I knew well, some of my friends from school and others of their cousins or acquaintances. I joined their group before COVID; we played everything together on the PS4, even joining voice calls. During the pandemic, we kept each other company by playing Fortnite, Project Darwin or Rocket League.

After that, whether because you're growing up or because others are moving on (and you're not), the group disbanded two years later. But the memories remain.

I was part of an infamous twink guild terrifying everyone in Elwynn Forest in World of Warcraft vanilla (turtle wow) years ago (for those who don't know, a twink is essentially someone who intentionally gets stuck at a certain level to pvp lower level players and get honor etc or just flexing on higher levels). ::goblingrin

The guildmaster was a warlock level 9 wearing a gnoll skin transformation, soloed lvl 20s and 30s because of buffs, consumables normally non-accessible to low levels, and we did a few hunts (we were 4 or 5 in the party doing that iirc) like that in Elwynn and nearby regions. Before being invited into the guild I was the PVP rogue that waited in stealth and ambushed everyone that had PVP on, had high honor pretty quickly doing that. ::hellmo

Even made a Troll friend and we just danced below a tent on the middle of the road asking for gold. After a while of ambush, I remember all of the people raging in chat and calling for high levels to 'organize a defense against the goblin rogue of elwynn', and they tracked me down several times but I often managed to hide and avoid them. ::eggmanlaugh

The kobold mine at the starting human location was also very fun to PVP in, in front of everyone. At that point chinese farmers mining ore in Goldshire mine invaded the server and there were literally hundreds of them. Whenever I killed one of them they'd send a blank message next to their username (because WoW didn't support the unicode of the characters or something), that was very funny as well, I was kind of a small-effort resistance against the invasion. Besides the farmers killing most mobs and taking the herbs, this also forced a loading queue that lasted several hours whenever you wanted to join, and that made me leave turtle wow after being bored of the waiting queue. ::whatashame

Good times.
