they sued midjourney for training their data with disney properties, and yet they don't mind making content with similar technology, gotta love that hypocrisy

I saw this image posted the other day, so that's how I learned about this.

So... They wanna corner the market on bizarrely off-character junk that can be created with nothing but a keyboard and a rough understanding of the English language? I love AI, but come on... They are openly giving the middle finger to all their artists and animators with this.

To further add to the stupidity, Bob Iger went in and say that Netflix buying WB would "bad for the consumer because monopoly."
Hypocrisy wants that?

Because there's not already enough AI slop being shoved our throats, thanks Disney

These are the guys that actively lobbied to change US copyright law... and they're actively supporting a technology that can easily make a joke out of their IP?? Are they stupid??? Or maybe this giant corporation cares more about making money than they do about the integrity of their art

I wish every 🅱️isney executive a nice hit your knee with a table corner :]]]]]]

This is what I found the most puzzling about this.

That's just it, there is no legal protection for AI generated material.
Under present law, content that was not created by a human cannot be copyrighted.

The AI hellscape is just getting started. It'll dominate films and music in the future. Just wait until AI artists start winning awards and the acceptance speeches are AI generated videos.

Heh. We'll see how long until the compromised courts bend.

As it stands, any studio who'd release a total 100%-AI-made feature film is a complete idiot. How are they going to convince audiences to pay money to watch a movie that'd be entirely legal to pirate?

At least public domain movies on DVD/bluray have manufacturing, distribution, and authoring costs.

All criticism of Disney is valid, but it never fully encompasses how TERRIBLE of a company they truly are. So to be fully transparent:

Disney's Business model from 1971 to around 2012 was profits through merchandise & their theme parks.
Before this they were like every other studio, they needed external investment. Post 1971 Disney could take risks and be more flexible with their productions.

Then the MCU became a surprise decade long infinite money printer.

So Disney decided to stop fuelling the 40 year old eco system of: "Good films drive merch sales which fund good films" to buy everything with the intent of brute forcing corporate misguided projects not tied to their theme parks or legacy brands onto the public.
Disney has irreparably changed, and it is never going to go back to how they once operated.

Oh no, Disney is using AI? A soulless machine that steals something and and remixes them into something "new"?

Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm & 20th century Fox:

Disney is automating their existing business practice.::surprised-pikachu
