Watching other people play (Lets plays / Long plays / Livestreams / whatever)

I don't but my son watches World of long plays on YouTube mainly for older games we don't own on MD, SNES, NES, SMS and especially 80s and 90s arcade

The closest I probably get to Lets Plays is when I watch Scott the Woz's second channel Scott Stash when him and his friends get together, sit down, play a game, and bullshit. I do watch several YouTubers for episodic videos which these days is mainly GameSack, Scott The Woz, and AntDude. There's some I wish would stop focusing on streaming and go back to their episodic gaming videos like PeanutButterGamer and SpaceHamster, but times be changing. I had to replace SpaceHamster with AntDude to try to get my fangames episode fix :P

Sometimes i watch speedruns for fun, never livestreams.

I get the appeal, but I don't go after every single streamer to watch them. I pick the ones that interest me, but I usually go for compilation clips and edits. Sometimes done by the streamers themselves. Those people have to at least be fun, entertaining, and not be total shitheads or decent people.

I really don't follow any Vtubers, but watching their highlights for certain games can be fun.

No seams rather pointless watching other people play a game when I can play it my self. I mean I can watch a game play video if im interested in buying a game to see if it´s for me or not.

Either i watch a short gameplay video to see what the game is about ( i found more relatable than " game trailers " ) or i'd watch to help me on certain hard parts of a game ( being lost / puzzle etc ) and i really like it more if it is with no commentary or just a small presentation of the game / situation in.

I rarely watch someone just playing for the sake of seeing someone play.

Just for that vicarious "first time" feeling, I guess.
Also I'll watch when I'm eating (dont want to get food on my controller) or I just dont feel like playing something (shockingly this happens).
Its just TV replacement when I dont have a show I want to watch I guess.

But I hear you, its definitely better to play a game yourself.

I more so listen to live streams more than I watch them. I just put on a retro twitch stream or something in the background while doing something else. I show up for the game but stay to listen to the streamer talk. I don't watch much YouTube these days, I'll only really look up a longplay if I just want to check the game out real quick or I got stuck while playing it myself.

Yeah I can understand what you mean but for me I I rather spend my time playing games or watch anime becuse my back log won´t finish it self while I watch other players. So if have lets say 6-9 hour to game in a day I rather play a game instead of wasting time watching people play.

I watch both of them,for pure gameplay it's usually livestream.
For videos it's mostly review/retrospective or just some random thing such as unlockables.

It was hype with Game Grumps for only 1 year because it was with JonTron and Egoraptor, hands down my favourite content creators at the times. Yeah, they were mediocre up to average gamers, and there's nothing wrong with that. But they did offered quality and funny moments together. Nothing against Danny, I feel overall he is a cool guy, but the series clearly kept dropping quality the more time was going on.
Seeing nowadays Arin struggling for DKC1 and call it one of the hardest games ever was powerfully depressing.

I watched few playthroughs like Viper playthrough of age of mythology , or grubby reforged playthrough or wtii playing couple custom campagins for WarCraft 3


Other than that no , i just don't enjoy watching someone else play unless it's IRL like my older sister playing Diablo 2 or Age Of Empires 3 or watching my younger sister playing CS 1.6 against easy bots but YouTube or live stream? HELL NAH i personally don't like people watching me play lol

I can't stand Arin, but I watched Game Grumps for a bit just for Jon. Once he left I never watched another episode.
Personally I don't care how good someone is at the game, I'm mostly there for the commentary, but not only is Arin terrible at games he's just a straight up asshole. Jon's pretty funny he carried the whole show.

I still remember how bad also their Wind Waker playthrough was. One of the most obnoxious one imo.

I've never been into the whole Twitch thing. The only time I ever watched other people play games was when I watched Giant Bomb back in the late 2000's and early 2010's. Their Quick Looks were very entertaining. It's too bad current Giant Bomb sucks, Nextlander (ex-GB people) phones it in, and Jeff Gerstmann's solo stuff is the best of the lot but still pretty phoned in.

I agree. I rarely watch gameplay videos, but honestly, I prefer to play it myself. And I have no problem with someone who disagrees.

A guy I used to watch a lot named Seraphim17 did difficulty walk throughs. Where he would play the game, I find the hardest difficulty or do something in addition to make an extra challenge. Sadly he doesn't commentate his videos anymore. He barely even puts them up because of the YouTube space/ algorithm or as he claims a waste of time to even bother talking. I think is sad and unfair at the same time. Considering the time and effort he mostly put into his videos. Not to mention, he has pretty good commentary that can be funny.
